COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA GOVERNOR'S OFFICE HARRISBURG PROCLAMATION CAPTIVE NATIONS WEEK JULY 17-23, 1983 The dream of freedom has long been a source of fierce struggle and determination for people throughout the world. As Americans, we are fortunate recipients of the realization of that dream. Yet in many countries, the flame of liberty continues to be tainted by the oppression and degradation characteristic of intolerant governments. We who enjoy the fruits of freedom must recognize that the rights we hold to be self-evident do not exist in all countries. We cannot and must not forget that some people are continually denied their most basic human rights in their homelands, and they are forced to live in silence, hunger and fear. We must not ignore those who are held bondage by totalitarian governments, and who are imprisoned for their dreams and beliefs. In marking the 25th anniversary of the first "Captive Nations Week” observance, we must join together in the hope that one day all people will be free. In recognition of the efforts of all men and women of goodwill who are working for freedom and justice in their homelands, I, Dick Thornburgh, Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, do hereby proclaim July 17-23, 1983 as CAPTIVE NATIONS WEEK in Pennsylvania. I urge all Pennsylvanians to join with freedom-loving people everywhere in support of the ideals of freedom of conscience, movement and speech. GIVEN under my hand and the Seal of the Governor, at the City of Harrisburg, this twenty-eighth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and eighty-three, and of the Commonwealth the two hundred and seventh. DICK THORNBURGH, GOVERNOR Hungarian Ethnic Group Of Western Pennsylvania The Hungarian Ethnic Group of Western Pa. is proud to announce Hungarian Day at Kennywood Park, August 10, 1983, starting at noon with traditional Hungarian food served all day long. Special mini programs including sing-a-longs and demonstrations are planned throughout the day. The Hungarian Ethnic Group Dancers will also be appearing on August 27 at the food fair in the Pittsburgh Zoo, and on August 28 at the Bethlen Home. The William Penn Life would like to congratulate Alex Bodnar, President and Program Director of the Hungarian Ethnic Group of Western Pennsylvania, for being chosen as "Executive of the Day" by radio station WSHH in Pittsburgh. Because of Mr. Bodnar's unselfish contributions, both socially and economically, he was saluted by the radio station on his day—Thursday, July 14, 1983. Any man at 45 years of age who thinks he can still do as much as he did when he was 20 just didn’t do too much at 20. Branch 28 Youngstown, Ohio We hope that everyone had a good summer and are ready to take up the affairs of the forthcoming branch events.
