Seniors Stay On Job Longer Many older Americans are following President Reagan’s example. At age 72, not only is he still working, but he is working actively. Statistics bear out this trend. In 1950, 90 percent of American males over 54 planned to retire early. That figure dropped to 74 percent by 1978. Jerome M. Rossow, president of the nonprofit Work in America Institute, says that the percentage has dropped even further since then. Why? Mr. Rossow gives several reasons; First, inflation is keeping people on the job longer. Second, the general health of older Americans has improved. Third, seniors want to work longer. Finally, companies are placing a higher value on the accumulated knowledge and experience of older Americans. Congratulations to Betty Hleba, who retired in December 1 982, after 42 years of service with the Association. Betty started working in the old Tab Department and then in the Treasury Department. She is active in Branch 71, Duquesne, Pa., and is the Branch Treasurer. A delicious luncheon was held in her honor on June 17 at the Churchill Valley Country Club. Joining with the Officers, several Directors and Auditing Committee members, and fellow employees, was her husband, Nick, who is also retired. Betty, congratulations on having reached that blessed day when you can start directing your own time. Enjoy your retirement and may the good Lord preserve your health and Nick's so that you can have a long time of togetherness to come. Seated at these tables are the people who are wishing Betty good luck —fellow employees. National Directors and National Officers. L. to R. —National Director, Albert J. Stelkovics; Nick and Betty Hleba and National President Charles. 16
