Branch 28 Youngstown, Ohio Our William Penn branch has been bowling-minded in the last month, as the Cleveland Bowling Tournament draws closer. We now have 2 men’s and 1 women’s team in readiness. The local branch has a big thanks to Peg Sándor for her hard work in getting things organized. Nothing gets off the ground unless you have a huge force to activate it. Peg was this force and we thank her and all the other members who helped her for a job well done. Good luck to all the bowlers in Cleveland. We lost a pioneer member in the death of John Gober. He was an early organizer in this branch and one of the last of that vanishing breed of early achievers in this valley. “They don’t hardly make them like that any more.” May his soul and all the other members who passed on rest in peace. We offer our sympathy to all the families. We repeat again that our branch manager, Gabe Nameth, is only a phone call away if any help or assistance is needed in insurance matters. Our meetings are held the second Monday of every month at 7:30 P.M. at Our Lady of Hungary Church on Belle Vista Avenue. We would like to see more members participating in our branch activities. We would be glad to receive any new ideas to keep us from passing away into the darkness. The officers are trying hard but we need help. This reporter again thanks all the members who helped organize the teams for the bowling tournament. See you in Cleveland. John G. Kaluczky Branch 28 Reporter 733 Canterbury Lane Youngstown, Ohio 44512 Phone: l-(216)-782-9851 Branch 76 Philadelphia, Pa. It is Spring again. It also means the 39th Annual National Bowling Tournament will be coming up, this time in Cleveland, Ohio. It is a function that many of us have fond memories of, a great time to renew friendships and to promote fraternalism. We sincerely feel it will be a success with the many dedicated people who are involved in this worthy event. It has survived all these years with changes in the times and conditions. Thanks are due to the untiring efforts of the Home Office, the sponsoring Branches and all those who participated in any way. We are happy to report that there are a good deal of increased activities in the area’s Hungarian organizations. It may be due to the fact that more people are becoming active and supporting the functions being sponsored. Functions that were a tradition in the past. We extend best wishes to our controllers Helen Schenkel, who is recovering from an extended illness and Annabel Karoly, who broke her arm when she fell. Also, Betty Wlosak, who has been disabled for some time. We miss you all. Our most sincere sympathies to the families of Mrs. John Waszily and Mentler Sándor, members who passed away recently. To all a healthy and enjoyable summer. Your reporter, Steve Szemes Branch 249 Dayton, Ohio After many weeks of vigorous friendly competition our local William Penn Bowling League completed its season. On March 27th the “Victory Dinner” was held, at which time trophies were awarded. Special thanks are in order to Steve Horvath, Vice President of Fraternal Affairs, for a tremendous job, securing bowlers, setting up the league, making arrangements for the dinner, and at present, chartering a bus for the trip to Cleveland. Grateful appreciation is also extended to Sydel Balas for a job well done as League Secretary. The ladies who prepared the wonderful meal for all those in attendance, and those who helped in anyway certainly should be complimented and thanked. They were: Regina Dúsak, Margaret Bauer, Helen Farkas, Margaret Horvath, Betty Mayercsak, Julia Konti, John Dúsak, Steve Horvath, John Motko, and Mike Mayercsak. Thanks also to the ladies who prepared the wonderful pastries. Congratulations are in order to the bowlers receiving trophies this year.
