Mr. Schmidt, for many years operated his own hair dressing business in Philadelphia, until they moved to Delaware, about 30 years ago. He is now retired and enjoying good health, as they made several trips to the former homeland and many other countries in Europe. Our sincere best wishes for many years of good health and happiness to a lovely and deserving couple. Fraternally, Pista Szemes Branch 296 Springdale, Pa. Sunday, August 5, 1979 was a beautiful day for our annual Hungarian Picnic. Early in the morn­ing the Entertainment Committee was at the Assumption Church Picnic Grounds, Leechburg, Pa. making preparations for the days festivities. The Committee headed by Jay Blizman consisted of John Szucs, “Peaches” Szucs, John P. Balia, Elmer Charles, Gus G. Nagy, Stephen T. Szilagyi, Joe Suzio, Julius Telegdy, Albert J. Stelkovics. The ladies in the kitchen were busy too: Emma Balia, Betty Nagy, Mary Suzio, Sue Szalai, Sue Mate, Mary Stelkovics, Marie Charles, Mary Antoniono The event started with the customery szalonna sutes. Later in the day, delicious fresh kolbász prepared by Mr. Charles, stuffed cabbage, home baked Hungarian pastries, etc. were served, with all the proper refreshments. The Ethnic Dancers of Western Pennsylvania presented a half hour program of fine entertainment. We are proud to have the well trained group appear at various William Penn func­tions, their purpose as ours, is to foster Hungarian culture. There was dancing to the music of Mickey Schwartz and his orchestra after the program. Our Disco classes ended with the start of the summer season. If there is enough interest shown we plan to have either Disco or Square Dance classes, come to the meetings and enjoy yourself. At the September meeting we held our usual bacon fry, closing out the picnic season. Our bowlers are back in action and looking forward to the 1980 National Tournament in Dayton, Ohio Many of our members indicated they will attend the October 12th Scholar­ship Dinner-Dance at the Churchill Valley Country Club. Several members plan to participate in the 1980 Tour to Hungary. Those in­terested in going with the Tour should notify either Gus Nagy or A1 Stelkovics. Plans are being made for the Children’s Christmas Party, tó be held Saturday, December 15, 1979 at 3 P.M. in the William Penn Room of United Church of Christ Hall, Spring­­dale, Pa. Again we urge all members to attend our meetings the third Wednesday evening of the month at 7:30 P.M. Branch 590 Cape Coral, Florida Our August 26th, 1979 meeting came to order at 4:00 P.M. After reading of the May 6th minutes by Secretary, Rose Darab, and the Treasurer’s report by Betty Bartus, our Branch Manager Anthony Noel made a presentation of paid up life membership policy to our senior member, Frieda Hoffmann (my mother) who since reached her 85th Birthday on July 26. Since our last writing many things have taken place at our Branch 18. Our young dancers went to Toledo to enter­tain at the Fair. They also sponsored a Dinner-Dance for the Muscular Dystrophy Drive, on August 25, 1979. On Sunday, October 7th, a most popular dinner was served at the Social Club . . . Roast Duck. We cannot forget our most eventful evening at our Social Club . . . October 13th, when our delicious Wooden Platter was the calling card. Since autumn marks harvest time, the Annual Szüreti Bal was held Oc­tober 27th with a Dinner-Dance. The music was provided by Joe Balint and his orchestra. The William Penn Dancers provided the entertainment for the evening. The William Penn Association is planning a Charter Tour to Hungary for the Summer of 1980. Anyone in­terested can contact Mr. or Mrs. Stephen Danko at 287-8035 or 381-9881 for further information, as soon as possible. We are very proud of our young dancers of the Branch. We would like to announce that they have been in­vited by the Hungarian World Federa­tion of Hungary to further their study in dancing and in the culture of the 14
