The William Penn Association is constantly seeking out, in the ranks of its membership, young women anti men who are willing to be trained in the field of insurance. If interested please contact: Stephen T. Szilagyi, Vice President— Marketing. All Pennsylvania members should be pleased to know that one of our life long members, Alex Debreczeni of Branch 85, Daisytown, Pa. has been unanimously elected Chairman of the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee. This is the first time in the long history of our Commonwealth that a person of Hungarian descent has been elected to such a high political position. We of William Penn are proud of “Debbies” achievements and are also proud of the fact that our members influence had something to do with his election. Mr. Debreczeni was born in Daisytown, Pa. sixty years ago the son of Alex Debreczeni, Sr. born in Hungary and his mother Elizabeth born in Leiseiring, Fayette County, Pa. Mr. Debrenczeni, Sr. was for many years Secretary and President of Branch 85. Mr. Alex Debreczeni, Member of Branch 85, Daisytown, Pa. Chairman of the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee. In 1939 Debbie was one of several successful winners in the then Verhovay Membership Contest the prize of which was a trip to Hungary. He spoke to the Hungarian Parliament at that time, his speech so impressed his hosts that he was offered a scholarship to attend College in Hungary. He accepted the offer and remained there until World War II erupted. Debbie is married to the former Mary Farkas and they have two sons and a daughter, Donald, Ronald and Carol, all three are California State College graduates. Alex Debreczeni is active in the Daisytown Hungarian Presbyterian Church of which his Father was one of the founders and he has served for many years as Chief Elder. Debreczeni’s political career is long and distinguished having served as Justice of the Peace, tax collector, Secretary to the Township Board of Supervisors, various Washington County offices and in 1969 was elected High Sheriff of Washington County. While in that important position he was responsible for the security of all the defendants charged with the brutal slaying of “Jock” Yablonski. Prior to his election as Chairman he served under A1 Benedict in the State Auditors Department. We were all pleased to listen to Alex Debreczeni at our Convention where he related his love for his Hungarian heritage and he stated “I try to live by the Golden Rule. My parents taught me about right and wrong and I have a deep and abiding Faith in God.” He is proud to be Hungarian and equally proud of his William Penn membership. We all wish our Brother Member Alex Debreczeni continued success in his chosen field. On Sunday, September 23, 1979 the Director of the Hungarian Varieties Radio program, McKeesport, Pennsylvania, Dr. Victor Molnár was honored with a Dinner on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of his Magyar radio program. Dr. Victor Molnár Dr. Molnár, a respected dentist in the community, finds time to dedicate hours each week in preparing his radio program in order to keep Hungarian music on the air. Dr. Molnár has traveled extensively throughout Europe and on each trip he succeeds in bringing back new records from these many lands, which then truly makes his program a variety of outstanding musical numbers.
