Anna Wash, Reporter Among today’s greatest sins is to be capable of learning and to remain ignorant. Branch 34 Pittsburgh, Pa. Members of the Branch were saddened recently to hear of the untimely death of one of our members, Mr. William Lear who unfortunately fell victim to one of today’s societies senseless homicides. Mr. William Lear was the son-in-law of the late Mr. John Fulop, who for many years served as the District Manager of the former Verhovay, then William Penn Association until his retirement. Mr. Lear was a well known antique dealer and was shot in his antique shop, Richland Township. Our sympathies are extended to the bereaved family. Mr. Lear is survived by his widow Sandy Fulop Lear, two young sons, Ronald Lee and Craig William, four sisters, Martha Gaiser, Virginia Lucas, Grace Bash and Charlotte Colton, a brother Karl S. Lear and mother-in-law Mrs. John Fulop. William Lear Branch 37 Hudson, N.Y. Members of the Branch and the editorial staff of William Penn Life wishing Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Novak God’s richest blessings on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of their marriage. They were married May 11, 1929 by the Rev. Mr. Hamory in the First Hungarian Reformed Church, Hudson, N.Y. Mr. Novak was born is B.Sz.Maria, Zemplén megye and Mrs. Novak in Harrison Valley, Pa. Five years after their wedding Mr. Novak became the Lodge Secretary of Branch 37, Rákóczi Aid Association and to this day is still fulfilling the arduous duties of Branch Manager. Mr. Novak by his own personal efforts built the Branch to its present large membership. He was always active in the New York Rákóczi Days sponsored by the Branches in the 1940’s and 1950’s. As a representative of the Branch he attended many conventions as delegate and was always in the forefront in membership campaigns. Mr. Novak is a retiree of the IBM Corporation and Mrs. Novak retired from The Universal Match Co. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Mrs. I. Craig Murphy, Port Washington, N.Y. and Stephen J. Novak, Simsbury, Conn. They have six Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Novak grandchildren. His grandson Craig Murphy is a graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point. This writer well remembers being with Mr. Novak just after his grandson graduated from West Point. There couldn’t have been a prouder grandfather, and rightfully so for a hard working immigrant from Hungary, living to see his grandson achieve this goal. A grand-daughter, Brenda Murphy, is a recent graduate of Cedar Crest College and is a nurse in Charlotte, N.C. It is our fervent hope and prayer that the Good Lord bless the Novaks with good health and a long life and I hope to be around when Steve Novak celebrates 50 years service with Branch 37. Isten aldja meg a Novak hazaspart. Branch 71 Duquesne, Pa. The members of Branch 71 mourn the loss of a former Branch Manager, Mrs. Mary Wagner of North Versailles Township, who died in McKeesport Hospital. She was born in Somogy megye, Hungary, 74 years ago. She organized the then Rákóczi Branch 71 in Duquesne, Pa. and with her late husband Frank were instrumental in enrolling many new members into the Association and worked diligently at the fraternal and social events sponsored by the Branch. She is survived by sons Frank and William and daughters Veronica Bujdos and Bernadette Mikolics. Seven grand children and four great grand children survive. She was buried from St. Stephen’s R.C. Church, Duquesne, Father Kato, Pastor offered the Mass. We extend our sympathies to the bereaved family. With the passing of Mrs. Wagner yet another of our pioneer Hungarians have passed on, but remembered for her many fraternal deeds.
