28th GENERAL CONVENTION In this issue of WILLIAM PENN LIFE the Excerpts of the 28th GENERAL CONVENTION MINUTES are published so that all of our members can read about the manner in which their elected delegates completed the business of the Convention in a record shattering two and one half days. More progressive and good legislation was enacted in this short period than was accomplished in those longwinded, drawn out one and two week conventions that were held in the past. The Officers and Board of Directors planned well to the minutest detail. There were many factors which contributed to the rapidity with which business was completed. First of all, the quadrennial report of the Board of Directors was mailed out to each delegate two weeks prior to the convening of the Convention. This gave each delegate ample time to read and re-read the report, so that when the time came for the discussion of the report, anyone with a question, about any portion thereof, could ask the question and receive a reply. Great strides in modernization was accomplished by having the National President, Mr. Elmer Charles presiding, who, with his many years of experience and wisdom was able to keep all discussions to the subject matter itself. He was ably assisted by the two Vice Presidents John P. Balia and Louis L. Varga. Minutes were recorded by the well qualified and experienced Board Secretary Frank J. Radvany. Minutes were precise and to the point and were approved each day with only minor corrections. Helping immeasurable to the success of the Convention were the excellent Committees, who did much of the leg work prior to the Convention and evenings thus saving much valuable time. Congratulations are in order for Mr. Edward J. Behuncik, Chairman of the Nominating Committee, Mr. John F. McCarthy, Chairman of the Elections Committee, Mr. Frank J. Wukovits, Chairman of the Resolutions Committee and Mr. Albert J. Stelkovics, Chairman of the Credentials Committee. The respective Committee members deserve a tremendous amount of credit for their excellent work. The names of the various Committees can be found in the Minutes of the Convention proceedings. To the best of our knowledge this is the first time in the history of an ethnic fraternal benefit Society where for the third successive 4 year-term the National Officers were re-elected by acclamation, thus for the next four years the National Officers will be: President: Elmer Charles, Vice Presidents: John P. Balia and Louis L. Varga, Secretary: Albert J. Stelkovics, Treasurer:Julius E. Somogyi. The Board of Directors were also re-elected with one new member: Stephen Bicentennial Membership Campaign The Officers and Directors of the William Penn Association join with our Nation in celebrating the 200th Anniversary of her birth. Our Association in the Bicentennial will celebrate its 90th birthday, so we have double reason to celebrate. Our contribution to a successful Bicentennial year should be a substantial increase in Membership. The Association can only grow and prosper, if it has sufficient new members enrolled each year. Our aim is to enroll 2,000 new members between January 1, 1976 and and December 31, 1976. We invite all of our Members to join in this Membership Campaign, help us to achieve our goals. In addition to helping the Association achieve its new Membership goals, a member could win a transportation free trip to Hungary in 1976. All you need do is enroll the required number of new adult and/or juvenile members, thereby earning credit points, points which mean dollars. The Association has prepared a Bicentennial Membership Campaign kit, which has all the details, instructions and forms. If you are interested in becoming an active participant in this Membership Campaign, please write to the Home Office for a kit. Details of the tour to Hungary in 1976 can be found elsewhere in this issue. Lesco from Branch 14, Cleveland, Ohio, replacing John P. Veszprémi, who chose not to accept nomination again.
