Branch 525, Los Angeles, California Celebrates 30th Anniversary Continied from page 1 Parliamentarian General Counsel Gay B. Banes, J.D. had to render an opinion which is another reason for the proceedings being completed in such a short time. Also there were far less By-Law amendments to contend with than in earlier years. The thorniest question arose when the By-Law amendment pertaining to the number of delegates a District will be eligible to send to the next Convention. At this Convention a Delegate District could elect one delegate for each 500 Certificates in force, at the next Convention there will be one delegate for each 600 in force certificates in a District. We are confident that with fewer delegates the next Convention will still bring fruitful decisions at the next Convention, as did this Convention. The delegates emphasized the need for and authorized increased fraternal activities, not only did the Convention instruct the Board to prepare an extensive fraternal program but also authorized the Board to help finance these activities which are conducted by the Branches and are a national program. The Convention was particularly pleased to hear that the Housing for the Elderly, a pilot project for Springdale, Pa. is moving ahead now that Federal Funds are again available for these purposes. The American Life merger was also high on the priority list of things to be finalized, if possible, in this next term. Our Bi-Centennial tour to Europe was also enthusiastically supported and authorization was given for the Board to arrange other tours also. In honor of the Delegates the Association sponsored a banquet Tuesday, September 9, 1975. This is reported in full elsewhere in this publication. All of us who were an integral part of this history making 28th GENERAL CONVENTION should be very proud of what was accomplished. This Convention has shown to future Conventions that through good planning, sincere execution and fine cooperation and dedication on the part of the delegates wonderous things can be accomplished in relatively short time. Our Branch 525 celebrated the 30th anniversary of its founding with a Dinner-Dance earlier this summer. The anniversary was observed in the MAGYAR HÁZ. There was a short program. The Invocation was given by Fr. Benedek Horvath. The Toastmaster was Bela Boer. He introduced all of the guests at the head-table primarily Mr. Elmer Charles, National President, Mr. John P. Balia, National Vice President, Mr. Andrew Szladics, President of Branch 525 and who was the only one of 15 fifty year members present. He was presented with a 50 year membership pin. Introduced was our hard-working, dedicated Branch Manager Mr. Eugene Fintor who was presented with the Illustrious Member citation by Vice President Balia, Mr. Balia praised the work Mr. Fintor has done on behalf of the Association and noted that this high award can not be bought, it is earned through loyal and dedicated service to the Branch and Association. The main speaker was Mr. Elmer Charles, who spoke in both English and Hungarian, giving a brief history of the accomplishment attained by the Association in 89 years and of the activities of Branch 525 which was organized by the late Alexander Gyulai and its first President was Michael Kostin. Other speakers were Vice President Balia, Fr. Horvath, Rev. Julius Paal, Rev. Bert Negyesy, Alfred Hámor, Vice President MAGYAR HÁZ Corp., Zoltán Szabados veteran member and newspaper publisher and on behalf of the California Magyarság Maria Fényes and John Katona, an officer of the Bloomington, Cal. Magyar Ház. Both Mr. Szladics and Mr. Fintor responded to their awards with gratitude and expressed their appreciation to the Board of Directors for having the President and Vice President attend this wonderful anniversary and celebration. Below are 3 pictures showing Vice President Balia presenting the citation to Mr. Fintor while National President Charles and Branch President Szladics look on. On the other picture Mr. Charles is shown congratulating Mr. Fintor. Third picture show head-table and Betty Katona leading the assembly in singing of the National Anthems.
