■\ J VOLUME 10 JULY, 1975 NUMBER 3 WILLIAM L-i OFFICIAL PUBLICATION THE WILLIAM PENN ASSOCIATION • PITTSBURGH PA. 15219 • PHONE (412) 281-8950 40 SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED Pittsburgh Area Branches Scholarship Dinner-Dance On Saturday, June 14, 1975 the Duquesne Golf Club, West Mifflin, Pa. was the scene of the 4th annual Scholarship Dinner-Dance sponsored by Branches 34, Pittsburgh, 71 Duquesne, 89 Homestead, 226 McKeesport and 296 Springdale, Pa. we were priviledged and honored to have many of our National Board of Directors present. There was a short program, Mr. Gus G. Nagy served as Toastmaster. There were only two speeches, one by President Elmer Charles and one by Vice President Louis L. Vaiga. Invocation was offered by Brother John of St. Ann’s Hungarian R.C. Church, Hazelwood, Pa. We were pleased to see so many young people in attendance. It is always nice to see the young set enjoying a fraternal event, such as this, with the older generation. An excellent roast beef dinner was served and our appreciation is expressed to Joseph Woolaghan Business Manager of the Duquesne Golf Club for his wonderful cooperation. Excellent music was furnished by Mickey Schwartz and his orchestra. They kept the guests dancing all night long. Co-Chairmen again were Ebner Toth, President Branch 89 and Michael Kara Branch 34 assisted by Mr. John Tusai Branch 34 and Mr. Roger Nagy Branch 71. Over $1,100.00 was again realized for the Scholarship Fund. Truly a worthwhile event and our sincere thanks to all who worked so diligently to make this event such a huge success. Certainly we look forward to next year’s event. Pictures on Page 5 The Awards Committee of the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation, Inc. met to review applications for scholarship grants to be awarded for the 1975/76 academic year. There were thirty applications to review. The same guidelines, as used last, year, were utilized again this year. Continuing the practice established last year, those who were recipients previously and furnished proper credentials and records were again granted $150.00 awards for this scholastic year, 16 such renewal awards were made to: Keith Barnes, Branch 34, Pittsburgh, Pa. The Officers and Directors of the Scholarship Foundation again appeal to all William Penn members, Branches and friends of the Association to continue to financially support this worthwhile Continued on page 4 OFFICIAL NOTICE To comply with Section 2 (15P.S.8503) of the Pennsylvania Insurance Laws, I, the undersigned, Elmer Charles, National President of the William Penn Association, do hereby issue a call for the convening of the 28th General Convention of the William Penn Association, to be held in William Penn Hotel, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, commencing Monday, September 8, 1975 at 9:00 A.M. The National Convention is the Supreme Legislative and Governing Body of the Association and, accordingly, included in the Agenda will be proposed By-Law Amendments, election of National Officers, Board of Directors and Members of the Auditing Committee, and the Convention will transact any other business which may properly come before it. All duly elected delegates and those, who by virtue of their office are members of the National Convention, are cordially requested to appear in the stated place at the stated time, bringing their credentials with them.
