Radvany Branch Secretary 18 Detroit, Mich. The 31st National Bowling Tournament is now a pleasant memory but it was fun while it lasted in Detroit. Most of the details are included in the other sections of this magazine but it was a very nice feeling welcoming the bowlers on Friday evening prior to the tournament at the RAMADA INN—meeting old friends and making new ones. Everyone had a real good time at the hospitality room around the pool, including the one gentleman who went in for an unexpected dunking. All of the officers and members of Branch 18 worked hard to make this tournament the success that it was and 1 would like to thank everyone including members of Branches 56 and 500 and also one non-member, Joanie Leak, for their assistance at this affair. Without your help it would have been hard going—but the main point is we hope everyone had a good time as well as good bowling. Some of our Detroit fowlers, both male and female, really outdid themselves including Joe Demeter’s team who came in first. There were others too numerous to mention but they will be seen in the final report of the tournament. Talking about bowling, the William Penn Mixed League completed their season on April 21. It was a close race all the way down to the last day of bowling but BOB FORD, INC. emerged victorious. This team is composed of Louis & Irene Molnár and Alvin and Kay LaFeve—again congratulations to yon four you deserve it. The bowling banquet was held at the Budapest Supper Club on Saturday evening, April 27 and everyone had a wonderful time. The new officers for the mixed league are: Ernest Eesedi, President; John Molnár, Vice-President; Emma Toth, Secretary and Helen Danko, Treasurer. The President will appoint the other committees when the season starts but all had a real good time bowling this year and look forward to starting again in September. The Ladies Auxiliary Annual Card Party held on Wednesday evening, May 1st was a huge success with almost 200 persons attending the affair. The dessert was delicious and prizes were too numerous to mention but everyone had a real good time. I would like to thank all members who worked so hard and faithfully to make this affair the success that it was and look forward to next year when we should have a larger one but we would have to find a larger hall to accomodate more people. The Auxiliary was most happy and proud to present a scholarship to one of the members of Branch 18—Miss Angela Marie Bartha who plans to attend Wayne State University in the curriculum of premedicine. We wish Miss Bartha much success in attaining her goal. It is with much sadness that we report the death of Gáspár Papp, Jr. (brother of Julia Danko) who passed away in Florida last week. The officers and members of both Branch 18 and the Ladies Auxiliary extend their sincere sympathies to his wife and their two children and also to Mr. Caspar Papp and to Julia Danko. May the Lord grant him eternal rest. I am happy to report that some of our Auxiliary members who underwent serious operations are now back on the road to recovery Helen Kanalos, Mary Jane Gebnar and Mary Kato. Keep up the good work girls and we ll see you in September. That seems to be all except for one item—the Auxiliary cookbooks, “Treasured Hungarian Recipes” are still available by mail. Send your check in the amount of $2.50 to either Elvira László, 7039 Kingsley Ave., Dearborn, Michigan 48126 or Julia Danko, 17275 Cedarlawn Avenue, Southgate, Michigan 48195.
