We prepared for this year’s event with trepidation primarily because of the gasoline shortage and its possible impact upon those who would drive to Detroit. Also for the first time the headquarters Nvere not in a downtown hotel but in the Ramada Inn, Romulus, Mich., many miles from the downtown area. Fortunately the gas crisis eased thus everyone who wanted to drive could do so. The entire week-end was administrated by Directors Stephen Danko and John P, Veszprémi, Jr. with the onerus task of coordinator assigned to Gus G. Nagy, Field Assistant to the President. The arduous duties of Tournament Secretary were assumed by Joseph Lorincz all of whom did a superb job! The local committee consisting of mostly Branch 18 members ably assisted by members of Branch 56 and 500 saw to it that all of us came from out of town were made to feel at home. On Friday evening there was a reception given for all in attendance. The scene was the Inn’s indoor pool area, a most suitable spot for such excellent hospitality, wonderful Hungarian food, gypsy music, beverages, Mr. Louis A. Scholarship Dinner-Dance 600.00 Western Pennsylvania Scholarship Dinner-Dance Profit but most of all good fraternal fellowship. Detroit members really were with it, the week-end began royally. Saturday morning there was a brief opening ceremony at the spacious Thunderbowl Lanes. There were sufficient lanes so that everyone could bowl at the same time. Mr. Gus G. Nagy acted as M.C. After singing the National Anthem, Vice President Louis L. Varga extended words of welcome and greetings on behalf of National President Elmer Charles who could not be present. Directors Danko and Veszprémi were introduced as Tournament Co- Administrators. Welcome was intoned by Mayor Frank Lada of Allen Park, Michigan. The honors of throwing the first ball were accorded to Vice President and Chairman of the Board John P. Balia (who apparently did some secret practicing. Joseph Lorincz read the final instructions and then the serious bowling commenced. Elsewhere in this issue will be found the prize list and there are many interesting action photos to be seen. It certainly is gratifying to see so many of our members continued on page 9 1. Co-Administrators Directors Stephen Danko and John P. Veszprémi and Coordinator Gus G. Nagy 2.
