A surprise to our President Bela Emri, was a plaque given by the Branch in honor and appreciation of the many years that he nas served the William Penn. He served as President of the Verhovay and as an officer of the Rákóczi and has served as President since the merger in Roebling. The Home Office is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. John Tusai as Manager of Branch 34, Hazelwood, Pittsburgh, Pa. We are particularly happy about Mr. Tusai assuming these duties because he is a valued Home Office employee since November 1958 working in the printing department. He is throughly familiar with the operations of me Association and its Branches and will be instrumental in bringing new members into the Branch and Association. Michael Kara, President of Branch 34 and member of the Auditing Committee has, together with his officers, agreed to assist John in his efforts to enroll new members. Good luck John! 44 Akron, Ohio The Branch Officers and members were saddened to learn on July 11, 1973 of the death of its esteemed Branch Manager, FRANK MAGYARY. He served Branch 44 as an officer for 40 years and was a member of the National Board of Directors for 24 years. Mr. Magyary was bom in Ozd, Kis- Kukullo County,Transylvania (Erdély) on July 25, 1895 and migrated to the U.S.A. in 1913 and settled in Akron, Ohio. He was employed by the Goodrich Co. and worked there for 42 years until he retired in 1960. He married the former Mary Koroncai. From this marriage one Son was bom, Frank, who preceeded his Father in death by one year. Mr. Magyary is survived by his widow Mary, Daughterin-Law Shirley five grand children and two great grand children. Mr. Magyary was active in all Hungarian civic and fraternal movements in Akron and its environs, he dedicated most of his time to the Rákóczi Aid Association, which today is William Penn Association. He served as Branch Secretary, Branch Manager and through his untireless effort and devoted services he, although working on a part-time basis only enrolled so many new members that Branch 44 became the second largest Branch in Ohio prior to the merger. In recognition of his services the 1939 Convention elected him the first National Director from the State of Ohio a position of trust to which he was re-elected each Convention, he served in that capacity until 1963. For his meritorious service and loyalty to the Association he was awarded tne Association's highest award that of Illustrious member and he took the emblems of the honor with him to the grave. Funeral services were held July 13, 1973 from the Kertesz Funeral Home. Very Rev. Tibor Dömötör officiated,At the gravesite a short eulogy was said by National Secretary Albert J. Stelkovics. On behalf of the Association Louis L. Varga, Vice President, Bridgeport, Conn. Gus G. Nagy, Field Manager Central and former Director Gabriel Czernai, Duquesne, Pa. personally paid their last respects. Mr.Magyary was one of the pioneers who helped nurture and build our beloved Association. He stood steadfastly at his post until he became hospitalized and unable to carry on any longer. In him we have lost a true fratemalist, however, by his good deeds he has forever etched his name in the pages of the Associations history. May he rest in peace. 51 Passaic, N. J. Petty Officer Mary Olga Cherpak, Duquesne is awarded the Naval Reserve Meritorious Service, the National Defense Service Medal and the Certificate of Appointment to the Rate of Yeoman Second Glass while on Temporary Active Duty at the Bureau of Naval Personnel, in Washington, D.C. Captain T.E. O'NEIL, Deputy Assistant Chief of Naval Personnel for Reserve, makes the presentation, who is a member of the Naval Reserve Surface Division 4-20(L) at the Naval Reserve Center, McKeesport, Pa. Captain J. E. O ’Neil, Petty Officer Mary Olga Cherpak. Petty Officer Cherpak, as well as her husband Michael, daughters Sandy and (Mrs.) Bonnie Burton and mother (Mrs.) Maria Duli are all members of the William Penn Association. YN2 Cherpak better known as Olga will be well remembered as a member of the National Bowling Tournament. Olga is also Commander of the Duquesne-West Mifflin Catholic War Veterans Post 1855. She is active in many veterans groups such as the American Legion, VFw Auxiliary and also a member of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association. She is a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Duquesne. 76 Philadelphia, Pa. Our branch is sorry to inform you of the death of Mrs. Phillip (Julia) Melnick, one of our dedicated ana loyal officers for many years. She served as our news reporter and kept the Wm. Penn Association informed of all worthwhile news and activities in our area. Her absence will be missed by all who came to know and appreciate her. Our deepest sympathy is extended to all her family. We wish to announce our annual dinner-dance to be held on November 17, 1973 at the United German Hungarian Club, Bristol Road and Spruce Street, Neshaminy, Penna. We will be looking forward to another pleasant and friendly meeting of all our friends, as we have in the past.
