Bero Director and Mrs. Frank Bero of 315 Algonquin Road, Fairfield, Connecticut announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Joyce Frances Bero, to Gregory Stephen Vangor, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Vangor also of Fairfield. The wedding is planned for June 1973. Miss Bero, a graduate of Andrew Warde High School, is a student at the National Academy of Hairdressing. Mr. Vangor, an alumnus of Andrew Warde High School, also attended Post Junior College and Bullard Havens Technical School and is attending Norwalk Technical College. 14 Cleveland, Ohio Branch 14, Cleveland, Ohio will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its founding on Sunday, April 23, 1972 at 1:00 P. M. in Bethlen Hall, Corner of East Boulevard and Buckeye Road. Branch President William Kastan and Mrs. Mary Karnya together with the other Branch Officers are planning a fine program. All members and friends of Branch 14 are invited to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest J. Balog of Cleveland, Ohio; formerly of Leckrone, Pa., wish to announce the engagement of their daughter Nancy Marie Balog, to Richard E. Fazekas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Fazekas of Cleveland, Ohio. Richard is a SPEC 4 in the U. S. Army and had served in Vietnam. A summer wedding in 1973 is planned. 18 Detroit, Mich. It is with deep regret and sorrow that we report the unexpected death of Branch Manager Stephen Úsztok. The officers and members of Branch 18 extend their sincere sympathies to his bereaved wife Mary and two sons. His departure will be felt by all of his friends and acquaintances in the Metropolitan Detroit area as well as the ranks of the William Penn family. May his soul rest in peace. The election of officers was held at the annual meeting of Branch 18 with the following results: Steve Danko re-elected President, Frank Csiszár re-elected Vice President and Andrew Toth the other new Vice President, Elvira László reelected Secretary, Steve New the new Treasurer, S. P. Danko the new Controller and the five elected Auditors are: Louis Csordás, Frank Kender, Betty Kocsis, László Kubovics and J ames Lochinger. The new appointees are: Julia Danko, Fraternal Affairs Coordinator, Frank Kato and Grace Csiszár, Members-at-Large. The newly elected officers were administered the oath of office by our new Director, John P. Veszprémi, Jr. On Saturday evening, February 12, 1972, the Annual Champagne Dance sponsored by Branch 18 was held at the Castaways Hall in Riverview. Over 650 guests attended this brilliant affair and everyone had a wonderful and gay time dancing to the strains of Frank Borisz and his Continental Orchestra. Donations of $100 each (from the proceeds of the Champagne Dance) were presented to the Down River Association for Retarded Children and to the William Penn Scholarship Fund. Some of the dignitaries attending were Dr. Sándor Varga, the head consul and first Secretary, and Andrew Kasnyik, third Secretary, of the Hungarian Embassy in Washington, D. C., Director Albert Kertesz and wife from Dayton, Ohio, along with a busload of guests, Edward Torda and wife from Cleveland, Ohio, Steve Ivancso, wife Mary, and father with a busload from Toledo, Ohio, as well as guests from Battle Creek, Flint, Port Huron, Kalamazoo and far away Wisconsin. President Danko wishes to thank all of the officers and member friends for their hard work and wonderful cooperation for making the Champagne Dance the huge success that it was and states that reservations are now being taken for next year’s dance to be held at the same place the second Saturday evening in February, 1973. The Ladies Auxiliary of Branch 18 also had their election of officers at the December meeting results of which are as follows: Elvira László is the new President, Irma Herr re-elected Vice President, and Julia Danko as Secretary-Treasurer (one position), Martha Balosé and Helen Nemeth are the two Auditors with Julia Tremble as an alternate Auditor. The ladies voted Margaret Veszprémi as Honorary President of the Auxiliary and also presented her with a beautiful wristwatch as a gift of appreciation for her many years of being President of the Auxiliary. Plans are in process for a social evening to be held on Wednesday evening, May 3, 1972, at 7:30 P. M. at the V.F.W. Hall. Cookbooks are still available (the new Ninth Edition is being printed) and may be ordered from Elvira László, 7039 Kingsley Avenue, Dearborn, Michigan, 48126, or Julia Danko, 17275 Cedarlawn Avenue, Southgate, Michigan, 48195, for the sum of $2.50 each which covers postage and handling. The William Penn Mixed Bowling League, with 24 teams, has just recently finished half of the season. It’s a hot contest for first place with the first place team, Steve and Mary Ivancso and Jula and Dorothy Feyes, leading by only 1% points. By the end of the season, April 30, who knows who will be enjoying first place. All the 96 bowlers really enjoy themselves bowling at the Thunderbowl Lanes every other Sunday afternoon. 76 Philadelphia, Pa. On March 11, 1972, Saturday evening our Philadelphia Branch 76 held their monthly meeting at the Hungarian Club, 1125 Southhampton Road, Philadelphia, Pa. Overshadowing our meeting was a sadness, keenly felt by all members present as we stood in silence, united in prayer for a deceased fellow officer, our Vice President, Mr. Louis Lovacs. After several weeks in the hospital, he finally succumbed to his illness on March 6, 1972. Surviving are his bereaved wife, Betty, and his devoted son and family. We, his fellow officers will always remember his loyalty, sincere friendship and his ever ready assistance in any given task for our Branch 76. As a last tribute to Mr. Louis Lovacs, he will remain as our Honorary Vice President for the remainder of the year. May he find the peace and everlasting life as promised by our Maker. As stated in our last newsletter, we had election of officers. Through an unforgiveable error on my part, I failed to mention that our Branch has three Auditors. Mr. Peter Wlosak’s name was sorely missing, so may I please stand corrected - Auditors for Branch 76 are: Mr. Peter Wlosak, Continued on page 10 5
