VOLUME 6 AUGUST, 1971 NUMBER 3 Successful 85th Anniversary-28th Bowling Tournament Vice President Varga, National Secretary Stelkovics, Preside«! Charles, National Treasurer Somogyi, Vice President and Board Chairman Balia. To the more than one thousand members and friends of the William Penn Fraternal Association who were in the Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel Ballroom on the evening of Saturday, May 29, 1971, the commemoration of the 85th Anniversary of the founding of our Association will remain a cherished memory. Through the years we have attended hundreds and hundreds of anniversary celebrations, but none reach the acme of dignity and meaningfulness as did our 85th Anniversary Banquet. The Board of Directors earlier in the year had decided to hold this anniversary at the same time our many bowlers would be in town. The decision was a wise one because members from many Branches from the different states were in attendance. For the first time we witnessed a really precisely prepared and executed program. There was not a boring moment and nothing but praise was heard from one and all. The commemoration program was opened by Louis L. Varga, Vice President, who served as Master of Ceremonies. Briefly but concisely, he commented on the purpose of the evening’s celebration and promised to keep the program running smoothly and keeping it brief, yet WELCOME William Penn Delegates to the Twenty-Seventh Quadrenial Convention commencing Monday morning, September 13, 1971 at the Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel, Pittsburgh Penna. — Please bring your Credentials with you. in the bounds of good taste. Mr. Ed Scotti, Local T.V. Star was called upon to lead the gathering in the singing of the Star Spangled Banner, our National Anthem. Rev. Imre Kovács, Pastor United Church of Christ, Springdale, Pa., in his invocation dynamically presented his Anniversary Prayer into which much thought and history was entwined. The Dinner followed, during which time Tony Mara, favored harpist entertained. His renditions were repeatedly greeted with bursts of applause. The highlight of the evenings program was the Anniversary Address of Mr. Elmer Charles, National President, who sketched very briefly the Association’s growth from the original 13 Founding Fathers to the 85th Anniversary month when the Association reached the 100 million dollar mark of insurance in force, a coveted goal to achieve and an auspicious occasion on which to reach this milestone. The theme of President Charles’ address was fraternalism in action, and that “Fraternal? Care”, working together as one, we can accomplish wonders for our fellow man. To demonstrate his theme, he called the two Vice Presidents, Louis Varga and John P. Balia, together with National Treasurer Somogyi and National Secretary Stelkovics to the rostrum, then asked that the houselights be dimmed. Each of the five then lit a candle which gave off a minimal amount of light, he then requested all the Directors and Auditing Committee Members and their wives to also light the candles on the Birthday OFFICIAL NOTICE To comply with the provisions of the Association’s By-Laws, I, the undersigned, Elmer Charles, National President of the William Penn Fraternal Association, do hereby issue a call for the convening of the 27th National Convention of the William Penn Fraternal Association, to be held in Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, commencing Monday, September 13, 1971 at 10:00 A.
