59 Scalp Level, Pa. We were very happy to have such a large, happy group of children and parents at our Christmas Party. Everyone enjoyed themselves by socializing, listening to Christmas Carols, and looking at pictures of last year’s Christmas Party. While waiting for Santa to make his appearance because of the many stops he had to make, we all enjoyed a light lunch of sandwiches and soft drinks, prepared and served by Mrs. John Korch, Mrs. Helen Miller, Mrs. George Tomasko, Susan Tomasko and Mrs. Joseph Miller Jr. It was about 4:30 when Santa arrived with his cheery Ho Ho, greeting all the children one by one and presenting each with a bag of gifts and song books. We hope to see you all again next year. * Notice to all members of Branch 59. Beginning in January of 1970 dues will be collected from 1 to 3 p.m. on the SECOND Sunday of each month at the V.F.W. Home rear 520 Main Street, Scalp Level, Pa. Please note we have changed our date from the third Sunday of each month to the second Sunday of each month. The cooperation of all members will be greatly appreciated. The newly elected officers for 1970 are: Joseph Totsky, President and Frank Miller, Auditor. A successful Christmas Party was held following the election of officers. Mrs. Joseph Miller, Jr., Br. Mgr. 70 Newark, N. J. Br. 70 Newark, N.J. Christmas Party was held at the Hungarian-American Center in Hillside, N. J. The heavy snow storm did not stop our youngsters and their parents from attending this lovely party. Festivities began with the singing of Christmas Carols. A piano selection was given by Karen Gabor and a lovely dance routine by Mary Farkas. A Quartet — Steve Vidám, Andy Balia, John Kalman and Charles Meker—also entertained us with a few Christmas songs. Christmas movies were shown to the delight of everyone while awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus. Santa (William Zimmerman) finally appeared and distributed gifts and candy. Refreshments, hot dogs, ice cream, cookies, soda were then served. A special thank you to the following for making this party a great success: Mr. and Mrs. Steve Vidám, Mr. and Mrs. John Kovács, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Nemeth, Mr. and Mrs. William Zimmerman, and Mr. and Mrs. James Emody. By this time we have all had it with the holidays and I hope now we can settle down to wait for the peace and contentment due us. To bring the happenings up to date:—Our Fall Banquet was a success, and those who attended, voiced the usual “bravos” to all who made it so. Our thanks to many who traveled so far to be part of this delightful affair. Next on the agenda was the election of officers for the new year. The results were as follows: Anthony Noel, President; Joseph Strippo, Vice-President; Mr. Stephen Szemes, Treasurer; Mr. Daniel Rosenfeld, Recording Secretary; Auditors, Mr. Louis Lovacs and Mr. Michael Toth; Entertainment Chairman, Mr. Philip Melnick and Reporting Secretary, Mrs. Julie Melnick. Mrs. Anthony Noel is our Branch Manager. You may recognize the above mentioned as ones who have served faithfully for years and I know that 1970 will be no exception! The enclosed picture of our Group 76 shows just a small portion of the children who attended our Christmas party. All agreed that this was “the best one yet.” Just to watch the youngsters really delve into all the goodies provided, brought joy to the grownups. And whose heart wouldn’t melt, just a little, to see their faces when presented with toys from their favorite pin-up of the season, Santa Claus? Here again, our thanks go to those who worked so hard to have such a happy time for all! Not knowing the details yet, we wish to make known that the Wilmington Branch will now be a part of our Philadelphia Branch 76. Welcome! With the new year many try to make resolutions. Ours? In the past we have tried, and I’m sorry to say, in vain, to meet the members of Branch 76. Because of the age of computers we live in today we have lost the personal contact of the members. Remember when you had to come to the meetings in order to pay your dues? What fun it was once a month to see old friends, exchange news and gain friendships! Yes, those WERE the days. Now? What’s your excuse today? Dues are paid through the mail, true, but where has that “togetherness” gone? We have gained many, many new members in our Branch, but how many of you have ever come to meet with us, talk with us and break bread with us? Don’t be just a name on an “IBM” card. Let’s get to KNOW one another. Join the crowd! Our meetings are the 2nd Saturday evening of every month at the Hungarian Club, 1125 Southampton Road. Time is precious — we all know that, but in this coming new year, won’t you give of yourself a little time, for friendship’s sake? The officers of Branch 76 wish to extend to ALL our members (babies too!) a wonderful, happy, healthy and peaceful New Year. That’s wishing a lot I know, but it is meant — On January 10, 1970, Branch 76 held their monthly meeting. It was a pleasure 8
