Csekei and A. Hernády Irrigation opportunities in the region of Mohács town situated in the vicinity of the Hungarian—Yugoslavian border along the Danube are shown in Fig. 1. In the development programme compiled in 1977 two potential sources of supply are indicated, namely the Danube and the storage volume behind two dams which can be realized in the region. One of the feasible dam sites is situated on the Csele Creek. The water retained can be used for irrigation, as industrial water, as dilution water for pollution control and contributes, moreover, to upgranding the environment substantially in the immediate surroundings of the reservoir. The town of Pécs relies for part of her watersupply on the Danube, diverting the water through the intake works constructed in the vicinity of Mohács. The
