(74) great significance in regard to.the particular water conservancy questions in Hungary. The four groups are as follows: 1. Fluvial sediment questions : transportation of suspended and bed load, deposition of sediment. 2. Various water movements, natural water surface formation, backwater, floodwaves. 3. Hydraulics of infiltration: percolation under natural conditions and on irrigated soils, groundwater movement, effect of channels on groundwater. 4. Seepage under dams and hydraulic structures, well hydraulics, groundwater table lowering. At the Conference 67 studies have been presented from 12 countries, 29 from Hungary and 38 for the most part from European countries near to Hungary according to the following distribution: Bulgaria 3, Czechoslovakia 3, France 5, German Democratic Republic 5, India 1, Italy 2, Poland 2, Roumania 8, the USSR 2 and Yugoslavia 7. The papers submitted have been arranged by the organizing committee of the Conference into the pertinent groups of problems and those along with their summaries in the original language have been published in five volumes and handed over to every participant or to other interested partiesprior to the Conference. The studies thus groupped were reported at the Conference by a most prominent expert of the field concerned. 17 studies related to sediment problems were reported by Dr. J. Bogárdi, 19 studies dealing with water movement in streams by Dr. W. Lászlóffy 12 papers on infiltration occurring under natural conditions as well as influenced by irrigation by D. Ihrig, whereas 19 studies relating to seepage influenced by hydraulic structures and those on wells by Dr. R. Mosonyi. The discussion of Ihe above-mentioned problems raised a lively interest on part of both foreign and Hungarian experts. The number of foreign participants amounted to 55 persons from the following countries: Austria, Bulgaria, Czehoslovukia, France, German Democratic Republic, India, Italy, Poland, Roumania, the USSR, West-Germany and Yugoslavia. Several scientific results were discussed at the Conference and particularly vigorous has been the presentation and discussion on either group of infiltration (seepage) yielding several results of scientific and practical value. Viewing the Conference as a whole, it can be stated that in proved to be successful both from the point of scientific results and from its effect on water conservancy practice and the interest displayed in its work. (Author's summary translated by Dr. B. Konkoly, tech. translator). 2. Verschiedene Wasserbewegungen: natürliche Spiegelgestallung, Anstauungen, Hochflutwellen.
