I. THE LATE FREDERICK FISCHER. By E. NÉMETH. The corps of Hungarian hydraulic engineers lias suffered a great loss : M. Frederick Fischer, Ministerial Councillor, head of the department of agricultural engineering in the Ministry of Agriculture, died on 26 January last. The deceased gentleman was, in the course of nis service, engaged in many branches of hydraulic engineering, but the most important part of his work was devoted to fishery and pisciculture. Besides his official work, he also did good service in different associai ions. He was director of the National Fishery Association and president of the hydi aulic department of the Association of Hungarian Engineers and Architects. The Hungarian engineers will hold his memory in dutiful recollection. II. THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR COMMUNICATION SYSTEM FOR THE BETTER DISPOSAL OF OUR PRODUCTS. By L. VAS. (Pages : 7—36.) The gradual development of the system of our waterways, as well as the establishment of facilities for navigation, are indispensable both for our domestic traffic and particulary for the better disposal in foreign markets of our agricultural products. The due succession of steps to be taken in developing our waterways should be : improvement of the navigation conditions of the Tisza river ; canalisation of the Körös and Sió rivers ; construction of a navigation canal between the Danube and the Tisza ; and canalisation of the Sajó river. Further works are : construction of wharfs on the navigation ways with connections to highways and, if possible, to railways ; erection of storehouses in the emporiums. Furthermore the enlargement of the commercial and industrial harbour at Budapest (punt о fianco) is also an important problem. It remains to mention the reorganisation of Hiingaiian navigation (rebuilding the stock of ships) bearing in mind the Danube-sea navigation.
