Intze-tornyok 2 – Budapest, Tatai út

1000 m3-es Intze II. típusú, kétmedencés tartályát eredetileg 10 oldalú, acélkonzolokra szerkesztett favázas burkolat takarta, amelyet az 1980-as évek elején, a torony végleges leürítése után elbontottak. A torony lábáig a Népszigeti Vízmű nagyteljesítményű szivattyúi juttatták el a vizet, majd a torony kis szivattyúja nyomta fel azt a 36 m magasan lévő tartályba. Egy-egy gőzmozdony feltöltéséhez a toronyból a vízdarukhoz vezető csővezetékeken át 15-20 m3 vízre volt szükség. A burkolatától megfosztott torony ma lehangoló látványt nyújt. De aki megmássza a toronytörzs palástja mentén felfelé vivő 152 lépcsőfoknyi utat, megcsodálhatja az alul domború óriási tartályt és Budapest egykor legfontosabb rendező pályaudvarát.

used to be 59 m high. The 1000 m3 Intze II type two-pool tank was originally covered by a ten-sided wooden mantle built around a steel-bracket structure. This cover was, however, pulled down in early 1980, when the tower was emptied. The water was transferred to the foot of the tower by the high- powered pumps of the Népsziget water works, and the tower's small pump pushed it futher up to the 36 m high tank. To fill a steam engine train 15-20 m3 of water was needed and that had to be transferred from the tower to the water cranes through the pipeline. The tower, now deprived of its mantle presents a quite depressing view. If we climb up the 152 step staircase of the tower, we can observe the huge tank and what used to be the main railway station of Budapest.
