Description and comparisons. The mandibular height of the present species is greater and the cingulum of stronger than in M . vireti from Lissieu. To review for comparison the hitherto known and described fossil members of the genus from Europe and the Middle East, Megaderma brailloni SIGÉ appears as one of the oldest species, certainly distinct morphologically in the shape and proportions of . The trigonid of this tooth is narrow and strikingly narrower than the talonid. Its cingulum is strongly sloping downwards and backwards on the outer side. Although the measurement seem to fit with those of M. vireti MEIN in the Megaderma found in Kohfidisch (BASHMAYER and WILSON, 1970), still its identity is doubtful, as the ratio of trigonid and talonid width of M-^ (figured in Table 9, fig. 43. op. cit.) is rather similar to that of brailloni, and not of the true vireti (see also op. cit. p. 558).
