PAGE 12 Verhovay POWER CITY NEWS SPRINGDALE, PA. AND VICINITY by Edward A. Mattie Branch 296 Slow but sure progress is being made in the construction of a new home for Branch 296. As reported to you last month, the former Odd Fellows building on Walters Lane has been obtained for our future use. To this building a new addition containing the social quarters and steward’s quarters is being built. Ground has already been broken. In the next few days the frame work should be well on its way up. When completed the building will be one which every member will be proud of. It will be one of the few buildings in the valley having adequate banquet and meeting hall facilities. These facilities will be available on a yearly basis to unions and to organizations. Every effort is being made to have this building ready for occupancy by January 1st. MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN In conjunction with the new construction program, Branch 296 is also having a membership campaign. By now most of you should have received through the mail information explaining this campaign. Each member is urged to recommend at least one new member. This can be done by talking to a neighbor, a; friend, relative, or fellow worker; With hardly no efffort at all on the part of each member, great results can be obtained as a whole, all of which will lead to a bigger and better branch. As stated in the letter, each member is asked to recommend at least one new member. However. there is no limit to the number of recommendations a member may make, the more the better. Just to make it interesting, the campaign will be conducted on a contest basis. The members getting the most new members will be rewarded prizes. So get in there and let’s see who comes out on top. Details on the prizes will be announced at a later date. ORCHESTRA The chicken supper held Saturday September 26 was a big success. The supper was a complete sell-out. The music was' furnished by Arthur Nagy and his orchestra. His orchestra plays at the Home every Fourth Saturday of each month. The chicken suppers will also be available every fourth Saturday. On each of the other Saturdays, Tony Kay and his orchestra is featured. So come out and have a good time! Bowling takes place every Sunday lit 6:00 P.M. at the Trocarino Bowling Alley in New Kensington. The new time is proving to be very popular with the bowlers.
