March 19, 1952 Verhovay Journal PAGE 13 Rules and Regulations of the 9th Annual Verhovay National Ten-Pin Tournament — May 30-31, 1952 — Riverview Recreation, Ine. — Columbus, O. •— No. 1 — Each Verhovay bowling team shall consist of no more than 7 (seven) members, and entries will be accepted only from teams and indivi­duals who are policyholders of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association with certificates dated prior to January 1, 1952. No. 2 — Contestants must have team membership cards on their person and these cards must be shown to the Tournament Secretary. Participants lacking such cards are subject to disqualification. No. 3 — No bowler may enter or participate more than once in a Five- Man, Two-Man or Individual event. No. 4 — Participating teams as well as the bowling leagues of which they are members must be recognized and registered in accordance with the rifles and regulations of the American Bowling Congress. The Women’s Division will be conducted according to the rules and regulations of the Women’s International Bowling Congress. No. 5 — In the case of the Men’s Division, the tournament handicap will be based upon 70% to 1,000 scratch to all teams, and will be limited to 3 (three) games of competition. No. 6 — All teams desiring to enter competition will bowl under the team cards assigned to them by the ABC. All other desiring to enter in team competition must apply to the ABC for a team card as soon as possible, through their local city association secretary. In cities where the Individual Membership Plan has been adopted, indi­vidual cards must be on the person of the participant at all times to be shown to the Tournament Secretary. No. 7 — Applications for Tournament participation must be made under the name of one of the Verhovay branches. The application must FIRST be approved by the branch members at a regular branch meeting. A cer­tified copy, signed by the Branch President and the Branch Manager, of such approval, based on the minutes of the meeting which approved the applica­tion for submission to the Executive Tournament Committee, must be for­warded to the Executive Tournament Committee in Pittsburgh, Pa., AT THE SAME TIME the Tournament Entry Blank is filed. In cases where the branch sponsors more than one bowling team the teams will have the pri­vilege of using another name in addition to “Verhovay” to distinguish one team from another. At the bowling tournament each bowler when bowling must prominently display on his or her person some suitable insignia indicat­ing the Branch Number and the location of the branch which approved his team's application blank for submission to the Executive Tournament Com­mittee. No. 8 — In the Woman’s Division the tournament handicap will be based upon 70% to 850 scratch to all teams, and will be limited to 3 (three) games of competition. No. 9 — All teams desiring to enter competition in the Women’s Division must register as soon as possible with the IV. I. B. C., and pay the customary legistration fee. No 10 (a) — Application for tournament entry must be mailed before Midnight, March 15, 1952. Applications mailed after the deadline date will be rejected. Application must be certified BY THE TEAM CAPTAIN and THE LEAGUE SECRETARY. Application must be accompanied by the de­signated entry fee. Remittances must be made by check or money order. Withdrawal after March 15, 1952, or non-appearance o>f teams at the Tour­nament shall constitute forfeiture of entry fees. The Executive Tourna­ment Committee reserves the right to reject any application. No. 10 (b) — Each bowler must pay a registration fee of $3.00. The registration fee must be paid in check or money order form at the same time Application blanks and Entry fees are remitted to the Executive Tour­nament Committee in Pittsburgh, Pa. The registration fee will entitle re­gistrants to the Friday night dance and the Saturday night buffet dinner and da,ye. There will be no exceptions to this rule — all participants must! pay the registration fee. Withdrawal after March 15, 1952, or non-appear­ance of teams or individuals at the Tournament shall constitute forfeiture of the registration fees. No. 10 (c) — ALL NON-BOWLERS must pay a registration fee of $5.00 for the Friday night dance and the Saturday night buffet dinner and dance. Admission to only the Friday night dance will be $1.50. Admission 1o only the Saturday night buffet dinner and dance will be $3.50. No. 11 — HANDICAPS: 5-Man Team: 1,000 — 2-Man Team: 400 — Individual: 200. Handicap allowed in each event will be 70% of the dif­ference between the scratch average and the highest actual average of the team, or individual entered. It will be computed from each bowler’s high­est average established in leagues in which he, or she, has bowled 20 (twenty) or more games. If the bowler has a higher average in another league in which he has not bowled 20 games, averages to be used will be the composite average of games rolled in all leagues. If a bowler has not participated in 20 games in any one league he must assume an average of 200. All bowlers who wish to claim a handicap, must have participated in at' least 20 (twenty) games in an ABC sanctioned league. The averages to be submitted for handicap purposes are to include all games rolled and total pins knocked down from the beginning of your bowl­ing season to February 2, 1952, inclusive. No. 12 —*- Recognized as Verhovay National Bowling Champions will be the Five-Man Team, the Two-Man Team, the Individual Event WinnerT the All-Events Winner in each the Men’s and Women’s Division. WINNERS SHALL BE DETERMINED ON THE BASIS OF ACTUAL SCORE PLUS HANDICAP. The Champion Men’s Team will be awarded the Frank Brog-Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Viszoki of Branch 87 Miss Marie Szanto, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Szan­to, 25 Krakow Street, Garfield, New Jersey, was married on February 2 to Joseph Viszoki, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Vi­szoki, also of Garfield. The ceremony was perform­ed by the Rev. John Gaspar in ! St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church, Passaic, New Jersey. The bride was a lovely pic­ture in a gown of satin and Chantilly lace which was sty­led with a Queen Anne collar, lace-trimmed bodice and skirt ending in a long train. Her veil fell from a headdress of orange blossoms and rhinesto­­! nes and she carried calla lilies. Her attendants wore ballerina­­length gowns of lace over net and carried long-stemmed ro­ses in contrasting colors. Miss Irene Roman was maid of ho­­: nor, in green. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Robert Kassa, in cham­pagne; Mi’s. Salvatore Perrone in pink; and Mrs. George Mo­­tiel, in blue. Joseph Adamkovich was best man and the husbands of the j bridesmaids ushered. Mrs. Viszoki is the niece and godchild of John Zakopcsan, manager of Branch 87, Passaic, and of Mrs. Zakopcsan. She is employed as a pay roll clerk at New Jersey Worsted Mills. The groom, an army veteran, is a guard with Burns Detect­ive Agency at Allen B. Du Mont Laboratories. The happy couple will make their home in Garfield. May they enjoy long years of happiness! ley Memorial Trophy and the Champion Women’s Team will be awarded the Albert B. Ari Memorial Trophy. The five members of these two champion teams shall receive suitable awards. Mr. R. R. “Pop” Diliinger will supervise the Verhovay National Bowling Tournament. The Tournament Secretary, assisted by the Executive Tour­nament Committee will rule on all items and matters not covered by ABC rules or regulations.
