On January 26th a large delegation from Branch 76 traipsed up to Trenton, New Jersey by_ bus, auto and, by some who missed the bus, taxi (they claim it was worth it), to attend the “Night in Old Budapest” sponsored by Branch 417 at the Magyar House. The number of people that attended exceeded our fondest expectations and" we all had a grand time. Many queried why Branch 76 doesn’t have similar affairs. We’re sorry to say that we are handicapped in many ways. But -we’ll gladly attend and support those held by not too distant branches. Our people seem to enjoy go inf* out of town for their good times. Congratulations to Dan Rosenfeld on his election as recording secretary. Jerry Karavias is still foot-loose and fancy-free. This is leap year, girls. Remember? And what are you waiting for, Jerry? “Doc” Smith from Glenside »surprised us by attending last month’s meeting. Many of you probably remember him from the days of our championship soccer teams as star fullback and manager of the now defunct Branch 377. There are a few of us left from -that gang. Incidentally, one is our president, livewire Tony Noel. Other are Carmen Mudry, Jr., our comptroller, a big family man, Dan Rosenfeld, our newly elected recording secretary, who replaced Mr. Benes who wants to devote more time to his favorite hobby, and Yours Truly, branch manager. Attend your branch meetings. Let’s have some activity. Fraternally, STEPHEN SZEMES, JR. Branch Manager Manager of Branch 129 Feted Columbus, Ohio Verhovay members and friends gathered together February 24th, 6:00 P. M., to- honor David George, Manager of Branch 129, Columbus, Ohio, in the uper hall of the Verhovay Hungarian Home. It was a pleasant evening for the some forty-one who came to exchange ties of friendship with the handsome, energetic manager of Branch 129. Mr. George has been very active in Verhovay life and has contributed much of his time to the Hungarian affairs in Columbus. He has always shown a fine spirit of cooperation when called upon in the interests of Verhovay and of his Hungarian brethren. Indeed the evening was an expression of gratitude to this big-hearted man. It is impossible to mention here jthe names of all the guests, suffice it to mention a few: The new Reformed minister, Revterend Joseph Marsalko, attended w’ith his wife. Marton Locsos and Andrew Fuleki, Sr., two pillars of Columbus Hungarian life, were present to honor their worthy friend. Joseph Fodor, former assistant Uttomey general, spoke in words that expressed the feelings of all those) present. Andrew Gulya presented Mr. George with an attractive brief case for his many services and as a reminder in years to come of this real friendly get-together. The smiling branch manager promised ever to keep the brief case full of Hungarian and Verhovay materials. As the deadline of this issue falls before our bunco party, we shall leave news of it until the next issue. Sadness was with us this month due to the death of two of our members. Member Gabriel Soltész passed away Friday, February 22nd. His funeral was Monday, February 25, from J. Höllerbach Funeral Home on Armitage Avenue. Mr. Soltész was one of our auditors in 1951 until sickness prevented him from taking an active part in branch activities. To Piroska Hartwig and his other friends, we extend our deepest sympathy. Member Emery Gazda passed away Sunday, February 24. His funeral was Wednesday, February 27 from Lain & Son on 63rd St. Mr. Gazda was ill for quite some time. To his widow, Mrs. Gazda, and his daughter, Mrs. Daniel Young, and her family, we extend our deepest sympathy. MAY THEY REST IN PEACE. On the sick list this month is Mrs. P. Szabó, Steve Balogh, Mrs. Joseph HunteiS Mrs. Margaret Kunstadt, Mrs. Wm. Schneider, Mrs. Frank Soo, Stephen Barna, Mrs. Peter Fabis, Mrs. Frank Rak and Julius Valko. A reminder to those members who wish to claim discounts fot quarterly, semiannual and annual payments: Please send in your payments before the 24th of the first month in which such a payment is due in order that proper credit may be given. A Happy Easter to you all.
