Verhovay Watchtower (Continued from page 8) next summer is a swimming race between Betty Kadar and Mrs. Melvina Hegedűs, and that Gene Toth may become a father again or that Sandy Hegedűs and Frank Oravis like to sing a duet? We work at the same place with Frank Toth formerly of 'Pittsburgh. He and I were reminiscing about the time when we arranged for a visit by the Pittsburgh branches to Cleveland and when Branch 366 visited Pittsburgh. I remember I became a mountaineer that year. We climbed and climbed finally finding refuge in a Catholic Church where I prayed that someone with an automobile would show up . . . Our prayers were answered . . . We were very much concerned when we heard that Henry Rettmann was hurt and our best wishes go to him and his family. (Editor’s note: Thanks. At this writing Henry Rettmann has recovered sufficiently to return to the Home Office.) We are glad to hear and see that Bert Luscik’s wife, Margaret, is able to get around after a serious operation at one of our local hospitals. We congratulate the new officers of all the branches of the Verhovay upon their election. MISCELLANEOUS Election of the Sports Club officers will be held on February 18, 1951. Very good people are aspiring for. offices and that is a good sign. We would like to hear from our Chicag’o writers about the city itself; how, if we should go by automobile, do we get there; a few items of interest, but please don’t tell us of Mrs. O’Leary’s cow . . . While building strength through the medium of the Bowling Tournament, Verhovay must provide for leadership in mobilizing the members to regain the initiative by an all out striving for fraternalism. We cannot permit any other organization to continue exploiting the general desire of the people for Fraternalism which was created by the Verhovay. Ex Animo, Joseph J. Horvath c/o. Verhovay Home 8637 Buckeye Road Cleveland 4, Ohio February 21, 1951 Verhovay Journal PAGE 9 Your Verhovay National Executive Tournament Committee RICHARD J. PHILLIPS Director ANDREW KOVÁCS. M.D. Vice- President MIKE KOROSY Director With preparations for the 8th Annual Verhovay National Ten-Pin Tournament going into high gear, it is a great pleasure to introduce to our bowlers as well as our readers the Committee in charge of all plans and arrangements for Verhovay’s increasingly popular annual sports event. Elected by the Board of Directors from among the members of the Board, they started to make plans for the Chicago event kt the last Tournament in Youngstown, OAfter several conferences with the representatives of the bowlers, first in Youngstown, then in Cleveland, O., and finally in Chicago, the 1951 Tournament City, they completed the plans, always endeavouring, whenever possible, to comply with the wishes, of the majority of the bowlers. Administration of the affairs of the Tournament is in the hands of National Auditor John Sabo who, appointed to this task by the Board of Directors of the Association, is in continuous contact with the members of the National Executive Tournament Committee as well as the General Committee of Chicago, consisting of bowlers elected by the branches in the tournament city. To the left appears Director Richard J. Phillips, Recording Secretary of the Board of Directors, the senior member of the Executive Committee and, incidentally, the only surviving member of the original Executive Committee which included the late Director Frank Brogley and the late Chairman of the Board and Vice-President Albert B. Ari for whom the championship trophies in the Men’s and Women’s Team Events had been named. Director Phillips, a Detroit businessman, resides at 7419 Park Avenue, Allen Park, Michigan. Many years of experience as the former Manager of Detroit Branch 356 have taught him to understand the problems of the membership and to solve them in a friendly and all-around satisfactory manner. Just as experienced in every pro-and-eon aspect of all Tournament problems, he is a guardian of the original purposes for which bowling has been included in Verhovay’s fraternal program. In the middle appears the Chairman of the Executive Tournament Committee, Andrew Kovács, M.D., well known Cleveland physician, Vice-President of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association. His office is at 3609 Lorain Ave., Cleveland 13, O. An intense devotion to the progress of the Verhovay, a keen interest in helping young Verhovayans attain positions of leadership with a view to assuring the continued advancement of the Association, unreserved helpfulness and just plain, unaffected friendliness are some of his qualities that have quickly gained him high popularity in Verhovay circles. As a sportsman of many interests and a sports fan of unlimited enthusiasm, he certainly is a natural for the position of Chairman of the Executive Committee. To the right appears Mike Korosy, Director, junior member and recording Secretary of the Executive Committee, a son of former director John Korosy (Korosfoy) whom he was elected to succeed at the last National Convention. He resides at 646 South Liberty Avenue, Alliance, Ohio. Being an active bowler, a member of the Alliance Verhovay Men’s Team, he ably represents the bowlers’ viewpoint in the National Executive Committee. A young man of confidence-inspiring sincerity and friendliness, he not only enjoys great popularity but deserves it, too. His extensive business training helps him translate his fervent enthusiasm for the Verhovay, a precious inheritance from his father and mother, into progressive action. This is your Verhovay National Executive Tournament Committee. If you learn to know them, you can’t help liking them and the better you know them, the more you like them. And that goes for every Verhovay sportsman and sportswoman who has the advancement of the Association at heart.
