THE HOME OFFICE DETROIT BRANCH 44.3 OBSERVES 15th ANNIVERSARY OF FOUNDING (Continued from page 1) Rapid progress of the branch started with the assumption of the management by Mr. Szabó. Three years later, in 1943, the branch already attained district status and sent its own delegate to the National Convention. The delegate was Mr. Szabó who was elected Secretary of the Organizing Committee of that convention. Today the branch consists of 910 adult and -290 juvenile members, or a total of 1200 members. Financially, the branch prospered just as well — while its assets totaled $169.83 at the end of 1939, the branch at the present owns $1255.45, which is quite an accomplishment considering that duriqg this 10 year period over $1200 had been spent for the maintenance of the branch. During the. 15 years of its existence, this branch was always among the first to participate in all patriotic and fraternal actions. It was one of the first branches organizing its own Hungarian Relief movement which raised $350 in donations from the members, which amount then was presented to the local chapter of the American Hungarian Relief, Inc. A special assistance fund was created for the discharged veterans qí' World War II, to which the branch (allotted $100 while the branch manager himself donated $10.0Q. In 1946, Branch 488 of Romulus, Michigan, merged intq Branch 443' with 4Q members. In May of the same year Branch 388 followed suit with 136 members. In 1949, Branch 356, until then managed by Director Richard Phillips, merged into Branch 443 with 234 members. In 1945, the branch started to participate in Verhovay bowling by organizing two men’s and women’s teams. The Br. 443 team participated for the first lime in 1949 at the Verhovay National Ten Pin Tournament, winning the national 'championship. Concluding his history of the branch, Mr. Szabó appealed to the members present to support him and, the officers of the branch in their ceaseless effort for the continued advancement of the branch as well as the Association. He pointed out that- I most of the members don’t attend ■ meetings and leave all matters to the officers who, in many instances, are handicapped in their efforts Jby the lack of interest on the part of the membership. He also emphasized that /the members can be of great help to •the branch manager in that allimportant task of securing new members and that every member should always be on the alert for new prospects and that every member should be a volunteer booster of the Association. He assured the members that with their support and active help, Branch 443 will start the era of its most rapid advancement with this anniversary. The warmly applauded review of the history of the branch was followed by an address by Director Richard Phillips who sincerely congratulated Manager Joseph Szabó Upon the excellent services rendered nnd outstanding results attained by him during the decade of his services. Julius Macker, Chairman of the Board of Directors, spoke with great, enthusiasm of the important contributions that the rapid progress of Branch 443 has made to the advancement of the Association and he extended his best wishes to Manager Joseph Szabó for continued success •in his endeavors on behalf of the Verhovay. The officers of Branch 443 wish to (take this opportunity to thank National President John Bencze, Chairman of the Board Julius Macker and Director Richard Phillips for their presence on this occasion and to the many members who, notwithstanding (the inclement weather, attended the celebration of the 15th anniversary of Branch 443. Upon invitation by the branch-officers, the meeting was attended by National Secretary Coloman Revesz, National Auditor John Sabo, National Treasurer John Szalanczy and Field Supervisor Elmer Charles. National President John Bencze, to his sincere regret, could not attend due to illness. The National Officers wish to take this opportunity to express their appreciation of the splendid hospitality accorded to them by Duquesne Branch 71. On behalf of the entire Home Office, sincere thanks are extended also to the officers of Branch 71 for their cooperation in the completion of the East Pittsburgh- McKeesport-Duquesne organizing district and for their highly encouraging promsies to assist District Manager Ernest Fazekas in every phase of his task. Special thanks are due to Secretary John Kucik who has faithfully and with excellent results served as Manager of Branch 71 for many years. It is due to his untiring efforts that this branch has grown and increased throughout the years of his loyal services so that it now could become the largest section and, as such the backbone, of the new organizing district. With a keen understanding for the organizing program of the Verhovay, he resigned at this meeting in order to make available to the membership the full-time services of District Manager Mr. Fazekas and, at the same time, give a new impetus to the task of securing new members. Tfie service Mr. Kucik has rendered as Manager of Branch 71 has been beyond and above criticism throughout the years and up to the last day of his term. This was sincerely acknowledged by the annual meeting as well as the National Officers. It is therefore to the great benefit of Branch 71 that Mr. Kucik will continue serving the branch and the Association as secretary of the'branch which, like the others in this organizing district, will maintain its separate identity and continue its activities as heretofore. With the management of the insurance business of the Association now being conducted on a professional leyel, we look forward to a steady and rapid increasing in the membership of the branches in the Duquesne-East Pittsburgh-McKeesport area and it is a splendid sign of true fraternalism on the part of the officers of the branches in this district that the Association is assured of their wholehearted cooperation in this program.
