Verhovay Journal---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------June Time Variety Show at Northampton, Branch 216 Stephen Toth, recorder of Branch 216, Northampton, Pa., was honored for his 15 years of service in this office during a June Time Variety Show held on Saturday, June 24th, at the Northampton Hungarian Hall. Here is the group who appeared in the show that was acclaimed as “one of the best ever heard” by the more than 300 people attending the successful affair. Branch 164 40TH ANNIVERSARY A gala banquet with entertainment and dance will mark the observance of the 40th anniversary of the founding of Branch 164 on Sunday, September 17th, beginning at 1:30 p.m., in the Lincoln Auditorium, 4219 N. Branch 296 ACKNOWLEDGMENT I wish to take this opportunity to thank all the members who participated in the selling of the Bowling Tournament Shares. Let me assure you that it was due to your efforts and cooperation that we were able to accomplish what we did. The results of your efforts made it possible for our branch to send the bowlers to represent us in the 7th Verhovay National Tournament in Youngstown. It is a pleasure to report that it was a very successful tournament and St means something to have had our Branch represented by such a fine group of young men. We are looking forward to bigger and better tournaments and to your continued cooperation in the near future. PICNIC A picnic, sponsored by the Verhovay Sports Committee, will be held on Sunday, July 23rd, beginning at 2 p.m., at Horvath’s Farm on Craw-„ ford Run Road. Fine foods and refreshments will be served. Music will be furnished by Horvath Guszti and his excellent Gypsy orchestra. Let’s make this a Verhovay Day by having every member attend. Please, bring your families and friends for an enjoyable time. Beginning the first of August, our Branch will conduct classes in reading and writing the Hungarian language for children from the ages of six to sixteen. There will be no financial obligation to the parents. We feel that the parents should take advantage of this opportunity by registering the names of children at the Verhovay Home, 220 Colfax St., Springdale. Classes will be taught by Mrs. Stephen Nagy, who recently arrived from Hungary. Mrs. Nagy is aqualified instructor as she has taught in several universities in Europe. This school is open to ALL children who - wish to learn the Hungarian language. ELMER CHARLES, Mgr. DETROIT, MICH. Branch 443 15TH ANNIVERSARY In accordance with a resolution passed by the June meeting, plans are made to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the founding of Branch 443 on November 11th, at which date an impressive banquet will be given to mark the observance of this jubilee. To assure the successful outcome of this venture, all members are requested to reserve their tickets atl this time. The price of the tickets had been set at $1.50 to enable every member to attend. The price of the ticket must be paid at the time reservation is made and each purchase will be duly receipted. If every member consents to attend and purchases his tickets no later than September 3, then the successful outcome of the banquet will be assured and your officers can proceed to make the plans for an impressive observance of the occasion. On the other hand, if up to September 3rd, tickets will not be sold in sufficient numbers, the plans will be cancelled and all advance purchases will be refunded. It is our sincere hope that there will not be a single member who would not want to attend this banquet in celebration of the 15th anniversary of our branch and, therefore, I appeal to every fellow-member to comply with our request and to purchase his tickets without delay.
