Proceeding with the amending of the By-laws the following actions are tsken by the Convention: 260. ) Chapter III., § 37: “The Sick Benefits.” In line 16 of page 70, “25 weeks” shall be amended to read “20 weeks.” 261. ) In line 6 of page 70, after “the Association shall pay every mem­ber who is also a member of this department” the following shall be in­serted: “excepting those referred to below, in article 6.” 262. ) The following shall be omitted from article 3) on the same page: “excepting illness from an accident in which case benefits must be paid from the first day of such illness, provided such illness lasts more than seven (7) days.” 263. ) The followisg new paragraph shall be inserted after article 5.): “6.) Members who have received sick benefits for 50 weeks for one con­tinuous illness or injury, shall not be entitled to further sick benefits for the same illness or injury.” 264. ) Part V. “The Property of the Association.” § 42. “Membership and Other Dues.” The first sentence of article 1/a shall be amended to read: “Every member of any class or classes of membership shall pay after each and every membership certificate held by him 5 cents administration fee every month to the administration fund of the branch.” The second sentence of the same article: “To supplement the Branch administration fund there shall be paid from the Home Office administra­tion fund to each Branch 15 cents per member each half year” — shall be omitted. 265. ) In § 44, “Management of Property (Assets) at the Home Office”, the following shall be omitted from lines 5 and 6 on page 83: “for the in­vestment of the reserve funds of insurance companies”. 266. ) Lines 8 and 9 of the same page shall be amended to read: “No more than $400,000 par value may be purchased/-from the securities of any one concern.” 267. ) The text of the provisions from line 17 to 25 on page 83 shall be amended to read: If, however, the Supreme Treasurer should find it neces­sary to sell securities below the purchase price to safeguard the assets of the Association, he must secure the consent of the three members of the Financial Committee of the Board of Directors and the other three supreme officers. In such instances the Supreme Treasurer shall submit his reasons for the sale, after the transaction, to the Board of Directors.” 268. ) The word “immediately” in line 29 of page 83 shall be replaced with the word “monthly”. 269. ) The last sentence on page 83 shall be amended to read: “The re­port and opinion of the Investment Service confirming the purchase or sale of every bond shall be kept on file.” 270. ) % 45: “The Auditing Committee.” The sentence “Two substitutes shall also be chosen”, in lines 5 and 6 shall be omitted and replaced with the following: “Of the three members one shall be elected from among the repi’esentatives of the English speaking districts. Three alternates shall be* elected, also, in the same manner.” 271. ) Th« sentence: “They shall also examine in connection with the annual financial statement the accounts of that year” in lines 10 to 12 of the same article shall be omitted. 272. ) The above amendments have been adopted by the great majority of the Convention. 273. ) Chairman adjourns the meeting at 5:15 P.M., until the following morning. Convention of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association, in the Gold Room of the Fort Pitt Hotel, in Pitts-* burgh, Pa., on September 18th, 1947. 274. ) Chairman Coloman Kolozsvary calls the meeting to order and re­quests the recording secretary to call the roll at which every representative reported present. 275. ) Chairman requests Charles Uray, recording secretary, to read the minutes of the previous sessions. Copies of the minutes are checked by John Toth and John A. Toth. 276. ) The Minutes are unanimously adopted with the following correction: The sentence: “A list of all purchases and sales during the month shall be published in the official organ of the Association every month.”, in lines 32 to 34 on page 83, shall be omitted. 277. ) Chairman reads a letter from the Hungarian Legation requesting the Convention to use its good offices that the $7,000 collected by the Ame­rican Hungarian Relief, Inc., be forwarded to Mme. Zoltán Tildy. After a satisfactory explanation by director Aloysius Falussy the assembly considers the matter closed. 278. ) Before proceeding with the amending of the By-laws, and upon motion made by Supreme Secretary Coloman Rev.esz, the convention em­powers the Board of Directors to amend such parts of the By-laws which may be in conflict with one another. 279. ) Continuing the amending of the By-laws the following actions are taken by the convention: 280. ) The following new article shall be inserted in ^ 55, “Disciplinary Sentences (Punishments)”: “i.) If a member, for any of the reasons set forth in the By-laws, shall forfeit his eligibility or his right to vote, his rights to the insurance bene­fits set forth in his membership certificate, shall not be affected, thereby, in any way. In such instances, the membership certificate of the member shall remain in full force as long as the dues are regularly paid and the benefits guaranteed in the membership certificate have not been claimed.” 281. ) § 64: “Travelling Expenses and Per Diem Fees.” In line 2 of page 101, the phrase “at the rate of $1,25 per hour” shall be amended to read at the rate of $1.50 per hour.” 282. ) § 66, “The Official Organ”. The last three lines of the first para­graph, “shall be published once every week in the Hungarian language and twice a month in the English language” shall be omitted and replaced with the following: “shall be published twice a month in the Hungarian and twice a month in the English language”. 283. ) The following shall be added to the third paragraph on page 103: “The Supreme President shall be the editor and the Supreme Officer elected from among the representatives of the second generation shall be the As­sociate editor of the English Journal.” PAGE 8_________________________________________ Verhovay 284. ) The following recommendation is unanimously adopted by the Con­vention; that the designation “Supreme Officers” shall be changed through­out the By-laws to “National Officers”. 285. ) The amending of the By-laws of the Juvenile Order follows. The following amendments are enacted by the convention: 286. ) While in the present by-laws the age of juvenile members is al­ways determined according to the age of the juvenile member as on his next birthday, in the future the age at the birthday nearest to the date of the membership certificate shall be taken as the age of the juvenile member. The same provision shall apply to the insurance tables in the Juvenile Order By-laws. 287. ) A recess of 15 minutes is ordered by the chair. 288. ) Following the recess the amending of the By-laws of the Juyenile Order is continued and the following amendments are adopted: 289. ) Considering- juvenile membership certificates to be issued in the future the Convention deems it necessary to introduce juvenile membership "certificates providing for the payment of full benefits at the age of 5 in all states where permitted by he insurance satutes. The Board of, Directors are entrusted with the proceedings preparatory to, and the setting of the date for, the introduction of these certificates. This recommendation is unani­mously adopted by the Convention. 290. ) The Convention resolves, also, to authorize the Board of Directors to introduce, if necessary, new types of juvenile membership certificates and that among these first consideration be given to insurance certificates providing for Payor Benefits guaranteeing waiver of premiums in the event of the death of the parents. The above resolution is adopted by majority vote. 291. ) The Convention resolves, also, to introduce accident insurance in the Juvenile order, provided no insurmountable obstacles prohibit such action, in order that the beneficiaries of juvenile members may be entitled to double indemnity in the event of accidental death. The Board of Directors are authorized to carry this resolution into effect in the near future, after the completion of the preparatory calculations by the actuary. This action is taken by the unanimous consent of the assembly. 292. ) Motion is made to increase the childbirth benefits from $15 to $25. The motion is defeated by a great majority. 293. ) The matter of real estate investments is taken up by chairman Coloman Kolozsvary, as the next item on the schedule of business. There being no discussion the matter is tabled. . 294. ) The discussion of the social activities of the branches follows' as the next item on the schedule of business. 295. ) In conjunction with the above the convention unanimously adopts the following recommendation: that the ordinary membership certificates of the juvenile order be taken in consideration when granting sports allot­ments, provided such action can be taken without exceeding the amount al­lowed in the budget for this purpose. 296. ) An unanimous vote of thanks is accorded to the officers and mem­bers of Branch 132 and the Verhovay Home of South Bepd. Ind., in recogni­tion of their hospitality extended to the participants of the Verhovay Na­tional Bowling Tournament of 1947. 297. ) Chairman adjourns the meeting at 1 o’clock until 2:30 P.M. 298. ) Following the recess chairman reads a letter of greetings from Wil­liam Feifar, member of Branch 164, which is duly acknowledged by the as­sembly. 299. ) Delegate Augustus Habodasz moves that the members of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association contribute each 10 cents per annum toward the maintenance of sports teams. The motion is lost and the Convention resolves that the members of the Verhovay be requested to help create a national sports fund by voluntary contributions. 300. ) In conjunction with the above the Convention gratefully acknow­ledges the announcement of Stephen Nyers, President of Branch 132, South Bend, Pa., and delegate of District 26/B, that District 26/B will contribute $5,000 toward the sports fund to be creaed by voluntary contributions. He requests the members of the assembly to consider this action as an example to be followed by the other districts and branches. 301. ) The National Secretary recommends that the Board of Directors to be elected be instructed by the convention to determine, by an evaluation of the Verhovay Fund, the possibility of reducing the age-limit, now set at 85, at which waiver of premiums may be granted to the old members of the Association. , 302. ) Delegate Dr. Andrew Kovács requests the members of the as­sembly to donate a few cents toward the aiding of the poor orphans in Hun­gary. The members of the assembly agree to comply with the request. 303. ) Charles Young, vice-chairman, moves that dividends, if declared, hereafter be issued on individual checks. The motion is lost. 304. ) Delegate Rezső Geller moves that those members who do not wish to cash the checks issued by the branch-managers shall return them as their donations toward dividends, the aiding of orphans, the sports fund or toward the Assistance of aged members. 305. ) The motion is ruled out of order by chairman Coloman Kolozsvary who explains that such action cannot be taken since all these causes must be supported by voluntary contributions. -306. ) The members of the assembly unanimously adopt the recommenda­tion that February 21st, the birthday of the Association, be designated as the Day of Verhovay Charity and that the proceeds of all social affairs to be held on this day be added to the Fund of Verhovay’s Crippled Juvenile Members, created by branches 189 and 369 of Alliance, O., for the purpose of providing medical care and training for those juvenile members of the Association who have becorqe crippled after their admission, which fund, held at our National Treasury, amounts to $1,611.50 at the present time. 307. ) The assembly unanimously votes a honorarium of $100 to the chairman of the Convention who expresses his appreciation to the members of the assembly. 308. ) The Convention unanimously votes $25 to each of the two vice­­chairman in recognition of their services. 309. ) The recording secretary of the Convention is awarded an honor­arium of $100. 310. ) The stenographer an honorarium of $150. 311. ) The recording secretary of the Committee of Appeals an honor­arium of $25 by unanimous consent of the assembly.
