Their decision will be considered final. HOW TO SECURE FINANCIAL AID? The question of how to finance the bowling teams of the Verhovay branches is widely discussed at this time. Apparently many of our bowlers are not well acquainted with the rules pertaining- to the sports grants awarded by the Association to the branches pursuing sports activities. Actually, the rules are very simple. Any branch engaged in sports activties is entitled to a sports grant on the condition that a net increase in the membership is attained. Up to now a net increase of 25 adult memßers was required. The rule was applied in the following manner: a branch which already has received a sports grant had to show a net increase of 25 adult members before application could be made for a second (or third, or fourth, etc.) grant. A branch which has never before received a sports grant and embarked upon a sports program, was required to show the same net increase in the membership, but no restrictions were made as to the time from which the count was to proceed. In other words, a branch, founded, for instance, in 1930, now embarking upon a sports program, may apply for a sports grant provided a.) the branch has attained a net increase of at least 25 members since the date of organization, b.) a sports team has been organized and c.) a budget is submitted, setting forth in detail the purpose for which the amount to be granted will be used. (Naturally, a detailed account, accompanied with the receipted bills, must be rendered to the Home Office after the allotted amout has been spent.) The XXI. National Convention resolved that, in the future, the combined number of both adult and juvenile members will be considered in determining the net increase of a branch. This rule, however, will not go into effect before the methods and effects of its application will have been studied by the Board of Directors. We cannot make any predictions but it stands to reason that the net increase required will be raised, in fairness to Journal _____________________________October 8, 1947 (Continued On page 3)
