The important fact, however, is that many branches are in a position right now in which they may apply for sports grants. On the other hand, there is hardly any medium sized branch which could not avail itself of the opportunity afforded by the Association, provided the sportsmen of the branch are willing to offer some help toward this end. This is the situation. The old rule pertaining to sports grants will prevail at least until the end of this year. Now, any branch, contemplating the organizing of a bowling team, may avail itself of financial assistance by securing as many new members as would be needed to increase the membership of that branch by 25 adult members during the next three months. Many a manager has done that much without any help from the members of his branch. Any manager will be able to attain the same result if the sportsmen of his branch support him by doing a little selling of their own. Bowlers are sociable people. Each of them has many friends. Surely, it will not be .difficult to induce them to join the Association if they know that, in addition to life insurance protection, they may partake in various kinds of benefits, like EQUIPMENT (uniforms, shoes, etc.) FOR THE BOWLING TEAM TO BE ORGANIZED IN THE BRANCH. You want ot bowl? You have no team? That’s easily helped! Acquaint your friends with these facts and if they are willing to cooperate with you, get in touch with your manager, and, then, go out with him to the homes of your friends and, from there, to the homes their friends. Your manager will do the selling, he will do the writing, all you have to do is to AWAKEN THE INTEREST OF YOUR FRIENDS IN THE VERHOVAY BY SHOWING THEM HOW THE ASSOCIATION WILL HELP THEM IN THEIR SPORTS ACTIVITIES. In no time at all your branch ívül have a net inrcease of 25 adult members. Then your Manager will write an application to the Home Office which, upon approval by the director and the district manager of your district, will issue the sports grant which will enable the branch to equip your team. Later on, when juvenile members, too, will be credited toward the sports allotment, it may even be easier though, probably, a higher net increase will be required. But why wait until then? You can avail yourself of the sports allotment right now if you apply yourself to the task with as much interest as you have in organizing bowling team. Then you’ll have what the Tournament rules call a “DULLY ORGANIZED VERHOVAY BOWLING TEAM”, you can register with the American Boivling Congress, or the Women’s Internation Bowling Congress, and you are all set for the 5th Verhovay National Boivling Tournament. You can train throughout the season, develop your scores and, as a duly organized Verhovay team, you will be eligible for any and all the prizes set by the Tournament Committee. So let>s get this thing organized right now, at the beginning of the boivling season. Don’t expect something for nothing. Help yourself and we’ll help you. And let’s hear from you! Write us, about your plans and how you are getting along. We will be glad to give you all the publicity needed. Good luck to all of you, bowlers of the Verhovay! 60,000 Verhovay members wish you success! Don’t fail them! Don’t fail yourself! Keep’em rolling, straight down the alley! American Hungarian Federation — Chicago Convention — (Continued from page 1) WITH THE TIRELESS Mr. Csanády steering the committee, work was commenced immediately on the preparations for the American Hungarian Federation Convention. Many will remember that Mr. Csanády has for many years commanded posts of importance and responsibility in all movements actuated by a genuine feeling for the Magyar ideal. AT THE MEETING of the committee and other delegates, held Monday, September 2“2nd. at the Balaton inn. 835 W. North Avenue, the following were elected to serve in these new capacities: Program Committee: Mrs. Stephen Révész, Mrs. Michael Bene. Mrs. Peter Köhler. Mrs. Maria E. Horváth. AND MR. DANIEL SZÁNTAY, Honorary Chairman of the Convention. Mr. Szántay, President of SANTAY CORPORATION, one of Chicago’s leading west side manufacturing concerns, is well known and loved in Magyar and American circles. Dr. Menyhért Pályi, Ph. D., will act as Master of Ceremonies. Dr. Pályi, an internationally famous economist and author of many essays on international affairs, is presently Professor of Economics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison; Mrs. Julius Szidák is Chairman of the Formal Magyar Costumes; George Weiler is our Auditor, and Stephen Huzianyi the Publicity Director. Other names will be added to the program committee as the need arises. Suffice it to say that arrangements are under way to have leading Americans as honored guests at the banquet, such as Senator C. Wayland Brooks from Illinois; Senator Wiley from Wisconsin, Governor Dwight H. Green of Illinois, Mayor Martin Kennelly of Chicago, Cardinal Samuel Stritch, Colonel Robert McCormick, Publisher of the Chicago Tribune — and other dominant personalities in American civil, administrative and ecclesiastical life. From all appearances this convention of The American Hungarian Federation promises to become the best in its entire history, one that will be remembered and commented upon for a long time to come. But one of the most interesting guests to appear at the convention will be Ferenc Nagy, who was Prime Minister of Hungary until his resignation. No one with a real interest in Í what current events will mean in our future and the future of the world will want to miss the opportunity to listen to his testimony. NOW, a word or two about the Federation. Let it be understood that the American Hungarian Federation achieved much for Americans of Magyar descent or linage, and for the cause of bleeding and unfortunate, 1000 year old democratic and humanitarian Magyardom. Therefore, the Federation — which is strongly supported by several of the largest Hungarian fraternal organizations (like the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association, the Reformed Federation, and others) need the staunch, earnest support of Chicago’s Hungarian community and those in surrounding towns and cities. Those who have a reverence for the ancient Magyar ideal — the Árpád, Kossuth and Petőfi traditions — will lend their en- I tire support and best wishes to the worthy American Hungarian Federation.
