The meeting of District /1C (Branch 48) was held in New York City on June 26th, 1947. 1. ) District President Andrew Tyukody announces that in accordance with the resolution adopted at the June meeting of Branch 48 the delegates to the National Convention will be elected by ballot and, therefore, no-S minations were made at the June meeting. Rezső Geller, Edmund Tihor, Stephen Sipos, George Szabó, Andrew Tyukody, Sigmund Miko, Emery Siket and Joseph Dremmel were nominated on part of the Hungarian membership and Albert Thos and Joseph Sharkozy on part of the English speaking j membership. 2. ) Ernest Feher, Julius Horvath, Andor Tömöl, Stephen Fabian, Alexander Egner and Frank J. Cher are appointed members of the Committee of Attendance and Elections. Ballots are cast during the meeting and the votf ing will close at 10 o’clock. 3. ) The meeting acknowledges the report of the President and proceeds to the discussion of the amendments to the By-laws submitted by the Board of Directors. Most of the recommendations having been adopted these Minutes contain only those items which have been either rejected or adopted with reservations. 4. ) Realizing that the increasing of the number of members entitled to representation is advisable for economic reasons the District recommends that the number of members constituting a district be increased from 300 to 400, and that the By-laws be amended accordingly. 5. ) It is the desire of the District that the compensation of the Convention delegates be set at a fixed amount which is to be made part of the By-laws. Adopting the motion of Andrew Tömöl the District recommends that each delegate shall receive $200 and travelling expenses. 6. ) The recommendations of the Board of Directors pertaining to district representation are rejected by the District, which recommends that the present provisions be maintained with the exception that the minimum number of members entitled to representation be raised from 15 to 25. 7. ) The proposed amendment to §6, depriving the Supreme President and the Supreme Ofifcerst of their vote, is rejected. The district recommends that this paragraph remain unchanged. 8. ) The grace period of 90 days shall not be reduced. 9. ) The official Journal shall be published weekly, alternately in English and Hungarian. 10. ) The District Managers shall be summoned to the National Convention for the discussion of promotional matters. 11. ) Objection is raised by Joseph Hattayer against the nominations of delegates having been made at the June meeting. His opinion is that nominations and elections must be held at one and the same meeting. In his reply President Tyukody explains that the meeting held in June expressed itself in favor of the ballot-system of voting which made it necessary to make preparations for the elections. Therefore, nominations were entered at the June meeting which ordered that a special meeting be held for the elections and the discussion of the proposed amendments of the By-laws. At the same time, opportunity for nominations was given to every member as nominations of then absent members also were accepted by the meeting. Andrew Tömöl refers to the By-laws according to which the June meeting of a Branch constituting a district by itself is to be considered the district meeting. The By-laws do not prescribe the duration of the district meeting which is not limited to one day. In order to settle the issue the President submits the matter to a vote. Against two dissenting votes the meeting approves the nominations made by the June meeting. Joseph Hattayer and Alexander Balogh reque^ that their minority opinion be recorded in the Minutes. The President orders the closing of the elections and the counting of the votes. 12. ) Joseph Sharközy, American nominee, accepts the nomination for alternate delegate only. Since only two nominations were entered on part of the English speaking membership, the District President declares Albert Ibos the duly elected delegate and Joseph Sharközy alternate delegate. 13. ) The Committee of Elections having concluded their task report that 84 ballots had been cast for the four delegates to be elected. 14. ) Elected were: Andrew Tyukody by 74, Rezső Geller, 70, Emery Siket, 52, and Stephen Sipos 41 votes. 15. ) Hungarian alternate delegates; Edmund Tihor (32 votes), Joseph Dremmel (15), Sigmund Miko (9) and George Szabó (6). 16. ) In behalf of the elected delegates the President extends his thanks to the members and closes the meeting.
