Dear Mr. Darago: Received your Xmas Greetings two days ago, and wish to tha/nk you for the card and to express my joy at hearing from you. I am now in North Africa, and although I am now so distant from our home land, I still will continue by contributions to the Journal whenever I possibly can. I suppose you may be surprised at the news that I am not in the United States, but we all hope this war will be over soon, so that we boys can return home to our civilian life and pursue our ways of living as we have done before. Again, I thank you, Mr. Darago, for your Xmas Greetings and for remembering me, and hoping that you are all right and in the best of health, as I am. Joseph Hodits, 1657 W. Huron St., member of Branch 503, Chicago, 111., volunteered his services and at present is in Kansas. Several months away his dad passed away; then Joe induced his mother to renounce government aid in order that he could volunteer to serve in the armed forces. She finally consented to his wishes. Joe was educated in Chicago schools, although it is interesting to note that most of his education was across, for he was bom in Hungary. This is just another example of the eagerness of American citizens of Hungarian descent to serve this — our beloved country.
