Before January 1, 1941 they cannot assist any such campaign. In the question of assistance for the social activities contained in the Detroit petition, they decide to authorize the Supreme Presi­dent to make the necessary steps. 55. ) The District Organizers of the Associa­tion appear before the Board and they submit their motions and the results of their con­ference to the Board in writing. The Board informs them that they will take under discussion the motions and notify them of their decision in writing. 56. ) District Secretary Frank Dudás comes before the Board with a petition in the name of Branches 8, 15, 59, 415, 302, 134 and 125 belonging to District 11, the substance of which is that the Board discontinue the posi­tions of District Organizers. The Board cannot comply with the re­quest since it would not only be contrary to general opinion but would obstruct the path of Verhovay progress and development. 57. ) The letter of complaint of Stephen Vereb, member of Branch 187 is read. In connection with this the Board heard Director Moses Csomor’s report relative to same. The Board cannot any longer help the substance of the complaint but will take care however, that in the future no occasion should arise to give cause for such complaints. 58. ) The Board cannot comply with the request of Branch 8, that they secure an add­ing machine for the use of the Officers of that Branch. The Supreme President adjourns the meet­ing at 5 P. M.. until 9 A. M., of the next day. daa. * * * MINUTES — CONTINUED Taken on September 21, 1940. The same ones are present. At 9 A. M., Supreme President Joseph Darago opens the meeting and orders the read­ing of the previous day’s Minutes, after which they are accepted and certified by the Board. 59. ) The advertising offer of the Amerikai Magyar Népszava is read. The Board directs the Supreme Secretary to place an advertisement in the 1941 calendar similar in size to the one in this year’s copy. 60. ) The Board discusses the report sub­mitted by member Kalman Palangi, in which he requests and advertisement for the WARD radio station. The Board cannot comply with the re­quest. 61. ) The New York and New Jersey First Hungarian Men’s and Women’s Aid Associa­tion requests a donation for their Childrens’ Home in Dayton. The Board cannot comply with the re­quest. 62. ) Member John Pocsik, Secretary of District 29 calls the attention of the Board to the question of the insurance of members liable to military duty. The Board acknowledges the notice with thanks. 63. ) The request of member George Per­­duk, Secretary of Branch 52 is read, which however, the Board does not find that it can fulfill. 64. ) John Nemeth, Secretary of Branch 484 requests the Board to establish a collector system. It is acknowledged. 65. ) The complaint of Branch 10 is read, against the District Organizer. Of two mem­bers recommended, he wrote one up to Branch 10 and the other to Branch 432 The Board directs the Home Office to determine whether the member written up to Branch 432 wishes to belong there or to Branch 10. 66. ) The Board reads the petition of Branch 340 and in reply to same, announces that the computing of the $1000.00 rates given in our By-Laws, to a smaller or larger figure is so simple that it would not be worthwhile to have a separate book printed which would give the rates of monthly dues for each figure. 67. ) The petition of Branch 364 of Youngs­town, Ohio, in which they request the estab­lishment of a collector system, is acknowledged. 68. ) The Board finds that they cannot comply with the petition of members Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kovács of Branch 188, to have their rates of monthly dues reduced. 69. ) The letter of member John Toro of Branch 36 is read, in which he requests the reduction of his monthly dues, in his name as well as in members in similar difficult cir­cumstances. The Board is unable to comply with the request, since these are not permitted by the insurance laws and the insurance authorities. 70. ) The statement of Martin Leber, Sec­retary of Branch 59 is read, which cannot be complied with by the Board. 71. ) The Board discusses the complaint of Emery Szucs, Secretary of Branch 25 and in connection with this, orders the Home Office to issue commissions after determining the validity of the claim. 72. ) The Board discusses the case of the monthly dues of such old members who were not willing to assume their liens in 1924 but are paying them monthly dues as per their age on January 1, 1924. In connection with this case, the letters of the insurance authorities of Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York States are read, which unanimously express the opinion that they cannot permit the reduction of the monthly rates of such members. The Board directs the Home Office to pub­lish the reply of the insurance authorities in the official journal, together with suitable in­formative articles. 73. ) The Board discusses the report of Nicholas Buday, member of Branch 33 and in connection with this, announces that since the report is not augmented with suitable proof, they cannot acknowledge same and for this reason orders it taken off from the day’s pro­gram. 74. ) The Board is occupied with the re­port of Zsigmond Raky, member of Branch 33 in which he accuses the Secretary of Branch 33 of various actions contrary to our regula­tions. The Board announces that the matters in­cluded in the report necessitate the ordering of an investigation and they entrust the order­ing of same to the Supreme President. 75. ) The Board is dismayed upon seeing the excerpt of the Minutes of the American Sick Benefit and Life Insurance Association (Bridgeporti Szövetség), in which the latest meeting of their Board of Directors rebuke Supreme President Joseph Darago. According to us, the Supreme President of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Associa­tion acted not only properly but in full realiza­tion of his duty to his Association, when he publicly announced that the entity of the Ver­hovay Fraternal Insurance Association as an Association would not take part in the New York National Hungarian Day, for the truth of the matter as he expressed it in writing also, is, that the Board of Directors of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association made no decision in that matter and in spite of that fact, it was apparent and legible in the articles and advertisements serving the National Hungáriám Day that the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association would also participate in the National Hungarian Day. 76. ) The Board returns to the detailed discussion of the Supreme Officers’ reports. The Board hears the report of Director Dr. Joseph J. Prince, who in company with his fellow Directors, Moses Csömör and John Szalanczy examined the securities, deposit books and other valuables comprising the as­sets of the Association. He reports that the assets shown in the reports of the Supreme Officers are all intact. After acknowledging these, the Board ac­cepts the reports of the Supreme Officers in detail also, after which, they announce the following decisions. 77. ) The Board is satisfied with the direc­tion and the contents of the official journal. 78. ) They consider the contract with Andrew Fay Fisher, the Budapest representa­tive of the official journal, as cancelled as of September 30, 1940, since he has returned from Hungary. 79. ) The Board orders a public competi­tion for the novels to be published in the Verhovayak Lapja. For the reward of the competition the Board appropriates $400.00. 80. ) The Board orders that the following decisions of the Board of Directors, made through correspondence, be incorporated in these Minutes. a. ) Upon the motion of Director Frank Brogley and Bert. Kun, the Board voted a sum of $500.00 for the expenses of the Ohio Valley Sports league. b. ) The decision of the Board brought in the matter of the extension of the conditions in the Junior' policies about to be issued, in accordance with the wishes of the insurance authorities of the State of Illinois. This de­cision in its entirety is quoted herewith: “Reso­lutions. Resolutions adopted at a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Verhovay Fra­ternal Insurance Association, on July 5, 1940. Whereas: The new Juvenile Term to Age 16 membership certificate to be issued by the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association, having been drafted for submitting to and approval by the State Insurance Departments of the several states in which the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association is doing busi­ness, and Whereas: It is apparent the certificate provisions of our By-Laws, to be in conformity with the membership certificate provisions as required by the insurance code of the several states in which the Verhovay Fraternal In­surance Association is doing business, and Whereas: The 20th convention of the Ver­hovay Fraternal Insurance Association to be held in the city of Pittsburgh, Pa., in Septem­ber, 1943, resolve: That in case any section of the By-Laws should conflict with the laws of any state in which tire Verhovay Fraternal In­surance Association is doing business or if any section conflicts with the requirements of any state: It should be the duty of the Board of Directors to amend such provisions to con­form with the laws: Therefore, Be It Now Resolved: That pend­ing an amendment to the By-Laws of the Ver­hovay Fraternal Insurance Association, the provisions of our membership certificate should be drafted to specify that, “Professional Sol­diers. (Within this definition come all those who are in the active service in any branch of the armed forces of any country at war declared or undeclared.)” Prohibited Occupa­tions in Part II. Be It Further Resolved: “The application of this Juvenile certificate made by a parent, relative, guardian or where permitted by stat­ute, some other person responsible for the
