rage o October 31, 1940 they announce that the guide-book for teach­ers be printed in five hundred copies. 26. ) In connection with the petitions re­ceived, the Board announces that where daily Hungarian teaching is in progress, the Home Office may give the necessary number of A.B.C. books to such schools at the request of the local Branch. 27. ) The Board discusses the Maiming Benefit case of John Pocsik member of Branch 344. After studying the papers relative to this case the Board announces that since member Pocsik did not accept the Maiming Benefits issued to him, the release signed by him be returned to him and the Maiming Benefits is­sued, be credited on the books. 28. ) Peter Mészáros, Secretary of Branch 381 appears before the Board. He expresses his thanks for the Sport Allowance issued to his Branch and at the same time displays the newspaper articles testifying to the successful activities of the sport team of the Branch. At the same time he requests that the Board establish a baseball league next year. The Board notes with pleasure the results attained and promises that in the future also, considering the possibilities, they will assist the sports activities of the Branches. daa. * * * MINUTES — CONTINUED Taken on September 19, 1940. The same ones are present. Supreme President Joseph Darago opens the meeting at 9 A. M., and orders the read­ing of the Minutes taken the previous day, which are then accepted and certified by the Board. 29. ) The Board acknowledges with thanks the greetings and good wishes of George Mo­­dok Secretary of Branch 33, Gaspar Papp, Treasurer of Branch 36 and Moses Bokor, Secretary of Branch 345. 30. ) The District Organizers appear before the Board and they are greeted warmly by the Supreme President. He then informs them of the decisions brought by the Board relative to organization matters and at the same time requests them to submit to the Board their motions and petitions. After relating the decisions of the Board he requests them to retire for a private con­ference among themselves and to submit the results of their session to the Board in writing. 31. ) The appeal of Zsigmond Raky and Nicholas Buday, members of Branch 33, against the disciplinary action taken by the Supreme President, is discussed by the Board and during this discussion, hears the appellants personally appearing before the Board, namely Zsigmond Raky and Nicholas Buday. After hearing their verbal defense, the Board ratifies the action taken by the Supreme President, moreso, since it was proven that the above named acted contrary to the rules in the By-Laws. 32. ) The Board is occupied with the state­ment submitted by John Korosfoy in which he requests the Board to secure the necessary license to operate in California and to organ­ize Branches there. The Board cannot adequately debate the motion owing to the lack of data and for this reason commissions the Supreme President to assemble the necessary data prior to the next meeting of the Board of Directors, relative to whether or not it would be worthwhile to or­ganize Branches in the far West. 33. ) Member Louis Alberty appears before the Board and verbally tenders his complaint. It is noted. 34. ) The Board is occupied with the peti­tion of Mrs. Albert Biro of Branch 36, which they cannot comply with, however. 35. ) The Board reads the statement of John Kremple, Secretary of Branch 412. The Board notes the contents and thanks him for same. The Board is continually occupied with the questions of securing and keeping mem­bers and they endeavor to solve it according to circumstances. For the time being however, they are unable to comply with the request of John Kremple. 36. ) The Board discusses the submitted statement of member Rev. Adalbert Petre, in which he requests the appointment of a separate organizer for the Baptist Branches. The Board determines that in view of their decision brought in March, when discussing this question, they made it dependent upon the results of the passed six months, whether or not this request could be complied with. Though regretfully, nevertheless they are compelled to determine that the results at­tained during the passed six months at the Baptist Branches, makes it impossible to com­ply with this request. 37. ) The requests of Districts 27, 27-A and 27-B occupies the Board, in which they re­quest the assistance of the Home Office towards a 30 Year Jubilee affair to be held by Branch 164, preceeded by a membership campaign as well as for advertising. The Board orders the request complied with and directs the Home Office to issue $75.00. 38. ) Members John Nemeth and László Nemeth appear before the Board. They voice their thanks in the name of Branches 180 and 484 for the sports allotments accorded these Branches. At the same time, they request assistance for the softball team of Branch 180 in the future also. The Board acknowledges with gratified pleasure the noble efforts of the two Branches and assure them that they will be of assist­ance to them in the future also, to the best of their abilities. M., Supreme President Joseph Darago opens the meeting and orders the read­ing of the previous day’s Minutes, after which they are accepted and certified by the Board. 39. ) The Board is occupied with the re­port submitted by the Auditing Committee. They express their thanks to the Auditing Committee for turning to the Board with their request, giving the requested information, which is in turn acknowledged by the Audit­ing Committee. 40. ) The Board orders that the Home Office advertise and request bids by November 15, 1940 for the printing of the “Verhovayak Lapja,” for the contract in effect at present, will expire on November 30, 1940. 41. ) The Board announces that on the occasion of the opening of the bids received for the printing of the Official Journal, Direc­tors Frank Brogley and Bert. Kun be present, on account of their living nearest to the Home Office. 42. ) Considering that the contract in effect at the present time for the printing of the Official Journal expires on November 30, 1940, the Board directs the Home Office to make arrangements to extend the time of the contract with the printer to December 31, 1940. 43. ) The statement of John Vizi, Secretary _____Verhovayak Lapja_____ of Branch 248 is read, in which he calls the attention of the Board to the case of the members about to be conscripted for military duty. The Board acknowledges with thanks the report of member Vizi and at the same time announces that the rulings of the Law govern­ing military service which relates to the in­surance phase of it, will be binding upon our Association also, regardless of the manner in which our By-Laws read in this matter at present. 44. ) The letter of Nicholas Buday is read in which he requests the tolerance of the Board for an erroneous statement of his. It is acknowledged. 45. ) The Board discusses the report of Branch 132 which is related verbally also, by District Organizer George Toth of South Bend. With a view to keeping the junior members of the Branch, he turns to the Board with a request. After acquainting themselves with the de­tails of the petition, the Board orders it com­plied with. 46. ) The letter of Dr. Géza Domokos is read, in which he requests a donation for a hospital about to be built in Budapest. The Board cannot take iinto consideration the petition for the reason that our last Con­vention has already rejected it. 47. ) The petition of Milton Smith, member of New York, in which he motions that the social life of the Branches be enlivened with motion pictures, cannot be considered by the Board since the Board does not direct the social activities of the Branches. 48. ) The Board acknowledges with thanks the invitation of Branch 35, New York, to a banquet to be held on November 2nd. 49. ) The petition of Nick Damjanovics, in which he requests the Board to make it pos­sible to give financial assistance to an air­plane flight to Hungary, regretfully though, cannot be complied with by the Board. 50. ) The Board acknowledges with thanks the invitation of Branch 83, New York, to a five year jubilee affair, and the petition in connection with same. Since they could not find a specific date in the petition, they cannot adequately dis­cuss the question. However, they wish to as­sure the Branch that when the occasion arises, the Board will be fully aware of its obligation to Branch 83. 51. ) The Board discusses the petition of the members belonging to New York Branches in connection with either purchasing of build­ing a. Verhovay Home. Though they regret it, the Board cannot comply with the request for their hands are tied by the decision of the last Convention regarding this matter. 52. ) The Board announces that they ac­cept the offer of the Rekordak Company and they permit that the checks which are more than four years old and have already passed the Convention and Insurance Department examinations, be photographed, since this ac­tion will mean a saving materially as well as in space. Concerning the details, the Board authorizes the Supreme Officers to make the further necessary steps. 53. ) The Board discusses the petition of Assistant District Manager Thomas Buchter, Detroit, Mich., which however, they cannot comply with. 54. ) The report of the joint committee of the Detroit Branches is read, in which they request a $500.00 financial assistance from the Home Office towards the membership campaign of three month’s duration.
