llMk Oldal 1940 Május 16 Verhovayak Lapja NEW YORK STYLE LETTER One of the celebrated French designers has added a new feature to her skirts... a lastex hip yoke that ought to make an important impression on skirts the world over. It does away with snaps or zippers and allows you to slip the skirt over your head. At the same time you are guaranteed a »erfect fit through the t’aist and hips. Have you wer had a skirt that felt all iTght #when you were standing up, but made you wish you could let out your belt l^en you sat down? Well ét think you said yes, and tfris looks like the solution to your difficulties. * * * It’s been hanging over cur heads for a long time, and this is a last warning to be prepared. The narrow skirt is coming back to stay. It first appeared in a few French collections; you’ll see it in some of the high style dresses for Summer; this Fall it will be here, there and everywhere. Most people think that it has an elegance and lady-like quality that full, “little girl” skirts can never attain. Above all, for the older woman it is much more dignified. Don’t worry about walking, though. You’ll have plenty of room for good long steps. American designers will see to it that even though the skirt is apparently slim, it has adequate fullness worked into the design, probably in bock where it is most becoming. From Anne M. Griffin Peerless Fashion Service 121 West 19th Street New York, N. Y. Far be. it from me to deny them sympathy or care or gratitude. But somewhere along the line I think that father has some consideration coming to him. I’ll never forget the night Bud arrived. I tramped the hall until I’m sure I wore out the geranium pattern at each end where I made the turnabout. I’d go upstairs and then I’d come down again, and occasionally I’d pass the doctor on the stairs and he’d frown1 at me, as though he wished I’d clear out. I met the nurse once in the garden, on my fifteenth round trip around the grape arbor, and all she’d tell me was “Progressing nicely!” Progressing nicely, indeed! Why didn’t she really tell me something! Once she came hurrying downstairs for something she’d forgot. My blood ran cold. My eyes popped. My voice stuck in my throat. I tried to see what she was after. Maybe it would give me a clue to what was happening. But I couldn’t fathom the reason for her haste. Later, when I learned it was for nothing in particular, I decided she was just torturing me on purpose. But my blood ran colder still when I came upon the doctor asleep on the sofa in the upstairs hall. Great heavens, with my wife at death’s door the doctor slept! Only the appearance of the nurse prevented homicide, I do believe. Then, at last, with the dawn, the little visitor arrived; and suddenly I felt that doctors and nurses are the finest people on earth. My enthusiasm refused to down, even when the mother said, as to a small child: “If I were you, I’d go to bed.” But lately, I’ve been thinking it over. Why do women treat men so?--------------O-------------DO YOU KNOW that the famous “Blind Milton Dictating Paradise lost,” a painting by Michael Munkácsy, adorns the hall of the New York Public Library, and that another gorgeous canvas of the famous Magyar master of the brush, “Christ before Pilate,” is a much-valued treasure of the Wanamaker Store in Philadelphia?-AN URGENT MESSAGE-to women who suffer FEMALE WEAKNESS Few women today are free from some sign of functional trouble.
