April 25, 1940 Page 11 477 BUGLE CALL Well, here’s the ole Bugler again folks. No, I can't play a bugle but I'm hoping to get the same results. We had a few more members at our meeting this month, but we could do a LOT better. It seems as tho our local Verhovay-ites have a bad habit of procrastination. Don't come to the "next meeting.” Come NOW. Ah ha! Mr. President, what were you doing while the secretary was reading those important communications? J. S. is so proud of his bright green socks that he raised his leg instead of his hand when voting! Goldie, did you find any of "those’’ in your Easter bonnet? It's becoming even on J. S. Let's see—what else was it used for? Seems as tho it was always in circulation. Dot, you really should stick around the next time. Congratulations and best wishes to Gay and Marge, who have "altered” their lives. Grace N. is an “up and coming one.” She's going to play ball. Julia, now that you started to make suggestions, won’t you please stay that way? My sincere apologies to Branch lOH. Last month 1 wrote that J7T was sponsoring the dance on the ?0th. It should have been Branches 177 and 10t> as the joint sponsors. Well, I can't tell you anything about the dance, except that the bets are 2 to 1 whether Jay Nyako will dance at said shindig or not. Boys, remember our last dance? Surprise wasn’t it. Well, anyway, be careful, girls and boys, the Bugler will be on your trail, just a-looking for news. Football is out of season and we all know that baseball is in the high lights. I can't help but think of the good ole Siamese football cheer, “Awa Tagoo Siam.” (Repeat the words rapidly.) May I ask the support of all our' members in buying and selling raffle ticketsf We must have more funds if we are to have a ball team. It i« for the good of the Branch, and I feel that you all will cooperate. Please don't withdraw your support from the Branch. I’d like to see ä crowd at the next meeting, so I could get more information about the members. I don’t care much for snooping (ahem!). But everything seen and heard is made public by —THE BUGLER.-------------0------------BRANCH 439 Johnstown, Pennsylvania Confucius say: “He who have no birthdays, have no fun.” Again, we invite all members, friends and out-oftowners to our Birthday Party, which is to be held April 28th, 7:30 p.m. at St. Emerick’s Church Hall, 6th Avenue and Chestnut St. We are sorry to have disappointed our members and friends, at our last birthday affair, but the river just didn’t stay away from our door. Confucius say: “Birthdays are grand occasions.” So we urge members who had their birthdays in the months of February, March and April to attend, as our guests of honor. To B. M.—WHo was the young chap who kept you away from the last meeting? To H. H.—Sorry to hear about your mother’s illness. We hope she feels much better. Try to attend our affair this month. Confucius say: "Time for Four-Thirty- Niner to hit hay again.” Ho, hum ... Here’s to seeing you all again, in spite of April showers. —A Four-Thirty-Niner. ■--------------O-------------RECEIPTS OF DANCE to Be Given to Hungarian Reference Library Verhovayak Lapja The net profit from the gross receipts of the dance held by the Hungarian Professional Society April 13th at Hotel Webster Hall, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will be turned over to the good use and lofty purposes of the Hungarian Reference Library of New York City. The Hungarian Professional Society is to be commended for its high motives which prompted the sponsoring of the affair. With such unselfish support and genuine interest, as that so recently shown by the Hungarian Professional Society, the course of the Hungarian Reference Library will be smooth indeed. The social event at Webster Hall was well attended and enjoyed by all those attending the dance. The program left no one unsatisfied, for there was both American and Hungarian music to fill the needs of the varied groups. The Hungarian Professional Society deserves the good will and cooperation of every Hungarian, because of the fine work it is doing.--------------O-------------SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT First Annual Spring Dance Branch 394 of New York City will hold its First Annual Spring Dance on Saturday, April 27th, at the Lenox Hill Hall, 331 East 70th Street, New York City.
