80 GETTING INVOLVED Újpest Children’s and Youth Centre [Újpesti Gyermek és Ifjúsági Ház] 17-19 Bajcsy-Zsilinszky u., Bp. IV. tel: 169-7166 (In the north of Pest, three minutes from the terminus of the no. 3 “blue” metro line.) Activities all year such as model ship and aircraft building, drawing and painting activities, for 3-6 year-olds, nature club inc. walks, Saturday morning children’s handicraft activities. In the summer there are special computer activities for children, open to all. Pataky Cultural Centre [Pataky Művelődési Központ] 7-14 Szent László tér, Bp. X. tel: 157-0712. A large centre in the Kőbánya district to the east. (Bus no. 9 from Károly körút, near Deák tér.) Quite a lot of shows put on, plus activities like musical gymnastics for small children, classical ballet for children, jazz-ballet for 14 year-olds, film and video workshop for young people. A chess club operates here, too. Zugló Children’s Centre [Zuglói Gyermek Művelődési Központ] 3 Hermina út, Bp. XIV. tel: 142-4906. (An old house, very near the junction of Thököly út and Hungária körút— lots of transport options, e.g. no. 7 bus from the centre.) Handicrafts for children, shows and music. Seasonal activities. Summer events include (for 6-14s) handicrafts, English, ballet and jazz-ballet and sports. Early August sees children’s games and handicrafts from different parts of the world. The centre is near the City Park so events often take place in the open air. Pen- friends and exchanges welcome! Angyalföld Children’s Centre [Angyalföldi Gyermekház] 15/a Dagály u., Bp., XIII. tel: 149-7761 (no. 3 “blue” metro to “Forgách u.”). Wednesday morning (3-6 yrs) puppet and other shows and play activities, often with live folk music. Regular handicrafts for the 6-10s. A variety of children’s shows on Saturday mornings. Summertime sees many activities with a folk-culture emphasis.
