Földes Mária: Ornamentation - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1993)

No. 3 Aulich utca, so-called Walkó House, sculptural DECORATION ON FACADE made up of the intertwining locks of a medusa-head. The ornamental pattern reminding one of a blooming flower on the ledge is repeated on the fourth floor balcony. Regrettably, we cannot admire several features be­cause of the sorry state of repair the building is in. Missing is the serrated crown with medusa-heads from the dome, we cannot see the male figures hanging on between the stringed ornaments with snake-heads above the third-floor windows; and the stucco plants and animals are decaying. The condition of the interior is similar to that of the outer surface. The once luxu­riously elegant entrance hall, adorned with a slightly twisting central column, and the stairway are neglected and the worse for wear. The coloured cut glass is no longer there in the swing-door, and the painted floral ornamentation is crumbling off the walls. Restoration is 42
