Földes Mária: Ornamentation - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1993)
No. 3 Aulich utca, so-called Walkó House, sculptural DECORATION ON FACADE made up of the intertwining locks of a medusa-head. The ornamental pattern reminding one of a blooming flower on the ledge is repeated on the fourth floor balcony. Regrettably, we cannot admire several features because of the sorry state of repair the building is in. Missing is the serrated crown with medusa-heads from the dome, we cannot see the male figures hanging on between the stringed ornaments with snake-heads above the third-floor windows; and the stucco plants and animals are decaying. The condition of the interior is similar to that of the outer surface. The once luxuriously elegant entrance hall, adorned with a slightly twisting central column, and the stairway are neglected and the worse for wear. The coloured cut glass is no longer there in the swing-door, and the painted floral ornamentation is crumbling off the walls. Restoration is 42
