Ferkai András: Shopfronts - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1996)

The Pink Püssycats bar at 58 Wesselényi utca, VII finding of historical value. The new parts he added also seem dissonant: a wooden door with a barred fan-light re­sembling the entrance to a home; next to it, a shop win­dow leans forward with a frame made of stainless steel plates; and there is also a sign and base, both made of alu­minium plates with brushwork covering imitating drawings. These elements evocative of disparate associations appear to be randomly put together, but in reality their intercon­nections have been very carefully designed - in the last analysis, they undeniably constitute a shopfront, although not in the usual stereotypical way. All that indicates that this office is a travel agency is a poster in the window and an illuminated globe, hanging from the sign (the globe was actually stolen a few days after the agency opened).
