Ferkai András: Shopfronts - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1996)
Deconstruction ist shopfront at 38 Andrássy út, VI utca in District VII. He intended to revive here the long- forgotten genre of the night club. The bar’s slogan “Fink dream world, fantastic nightlife atmosphere” determined its appearance both outside and within. The frontage refers to the pussycats the place was named after in a stunning way - two huge bulging plastic hemispheres catch the eye above the pink doors. Between the two “breasts" hangs a sign saying “Bar” made of a curved pink neon tube. The zigzag division of the wooden doors evokes an Art Deco style as well as the world of Japanese geisha houses. The interior of the small three-storey night club is not as unified as its frontage, which produces a powerful effect due to the unequivocal association on which its design is based. Several different materials and a number of different associations blend inside - the quilted imitation leather protecting the counter and the bar stools covered with imitation fur refer to the 1960s, the cave-like billiard room recalls the spaces constructed by German Expres48
