of the second floor. This old building is a good example of the “Romantic" style which appears with the late 19th-century industrial buildings made of brick as a new stylistic element. The forms and masses of these buildings became almost uniform in industrial construction. The building is akin to the Budaújlak Waterworks and the garage in Henger utca, which were built in the 1880s. The Újpest terminos of the Horse Tramway XIII, Váci út 201 Horse tramways first appeared in New York in 1852, and were soon followed by the capitals of Europe. The first horse tramway line in Pest started from the Haymar- ket (today Kálvin tér), and proceeded by the National Museum, the Zrínyi Caffé (today Astoria), the Basilica, the Western Railway Station (Nyugati pályaudvar) and on to Újpest. The legendary tramway line was inaugurated on 1st August 1866. It complemented the steamship traffic (functioning since 1830) and the omnibus line between the Lloyd Palace and the City Park. The Újpest Terminus was built on the basis of János Wagner’s plan, maybe with the cooperation of the famous architect Miklós Ybl.
