Tanulmányok a veszprémi egyházmegye történetéről - Mózessy Gergely: Katolikus püspökök a nyilasok fogságában (Mindszenty József és Shvoy Lajos elhurcolása)

Mózessy Gergely notified the national assembly about violating their diplomatic ammunity, informed the primate and the papal legate about their situation. Shvoy took advantage of the Corpus Iuris Canonici more bravely by excommunicating the főispán who put him into detention. Mindszenty was more undetermined in this contrast, and his protests, aimed at governmental authorities, were more sophisticated. Both bishops were regarded as resistants due to their Nazi captivity, yet the developing communist dictatorship acknowledged this fact only on a hypothetical level. The fact that they both were confined neither improved their situation nor influenced later measures taken by the party-state against the prelates. Their common captivity made the two prelates natural allies. Lajos Shvoy remained one of Mindszenty’s most faithful colleagues, who otherwise became archbishop of Esztergom and in a show trial in 1949 was sentenced to prison. 274
