A főtér rendezését 1949-ben folytatták, amikor a piacot teljesen kiszorították innen. Architectural image of the Main square changed in 1761. Although the square kept its medieval funnel shape, one of the two significant buildings in its middle - most likely the town hall - was ruined, and the other, the Saint Michael parish-church - which served as the cathedral under Ottoman occupation - was disassembled in the 1760s. In the year of the millennium, the gated Constantingardens were created in front of the building, and the WWI. memorial - Statue to the Heroes - was put on display, on October 15, 1933. A Soviet military memorial - the "Cigar” as it is called in Vác -, was installed on the south section of the square in 1945. The former was relocated to the Church of the White Monks in 1951, the latter was demolished in 1956. Reconstruction of the main square continued in 1949, and the market was expelled. 65
