Among the invertebrate species the Danube Clouded Yellow But­terfly, which is en­dangered worldwide, deserves special atten­tion, but we can also Silver-washed fritillary find the Southern Fes­toon, and the Clouded Apollo in great numbers. The southern side of the hill is densely populated by wild bees. One of the out­standing natural treas­ures of the region is a large population of the snake-eyed (Pannon) Skink. As to mammals, it is the small mammals, especially the occur­rence of all three kinds of dormouse that are significant in the mosaic areas at the foot of the hill and in the orchards. Big games also occur, but there are not any speci­alities. Fortunately, mouflons, which have been introduced to Hungary from Southern Europe, do not live in the area; if they did, they might endanger the rich flora. Naszály is also very rich from an ornithologi­cal aspect due to the presence of several birds of prey, all kinds of domestic woodpeckers, as well as some Mediterra­nean species like the short-toed eagle and the rock bunting.
