Tartalom

The floods and the Gombás Stream change the depressions into puddles and oxbow lakes. The typical species of the shallow waters are the Floating Pondweed, the Lesser or Common Duckweed and the Canadian Pondweed. These peaceful waters are the best places for the fish and the amphibia to reproduce, and for the kingfisher and the grey heron to hunt for them. We can see mallards almost throughout the year even on the lake in the Grove; they only retreat to the Danube when it freezes. Some less common bird species like the Little and the Great White Egret or the Black Stork also appear regularly. Icterina Warblers and River Warblers nestle in the gallery forests. Moving away from the Danube we arrive in the landscaped Grove, which is on a higher level again. Although not covered by original vegetation, the old sycamore trees provide excellent nestling places in their hollows for jackdaws, Tawny Owls and woodpeckers. Snowdrops, Alpine Squill and fig buttercups appear in the undergrowth. On this level of the natural flood forests the woodlands are made up of English or Pedunculate Oaks, Hungarian ash trees and European White Elm trees.
