SIGHTSEEING Outside the en- * <1 trance of the palace the Baroque stat- gkjfcl^B ues of King St ©&K. \ Ladislaus and St Se­­la bastion can be seen. St Ladislaus was moved here from the Migazzian foot- ^ bridge by the jetty that had been demolished. The replicas of the Nepomuk statue of the same place are in the bishop's garden and near the old bridge respectively. In the foreground of the statue of St Sebastian that of Roch's stands. The latter used to decorate the square in front of the Franciscan church. The northern side of the square is domi- jA nated by the buildings of the Pia- Jm. rists. The Piarist Church and Mon­­^ astery were built for their teaching order, which had been invited to the town by Bishop Zsigmond Kollonits in 1714. The twin stee­ple church built in a closed terrace between 1725 and 1745 was dedicated to St Anne. The sin­gle-aisled Baroque building was con­­verted into eclectic style in 1866, later ^^^B its spires were also rebuilt. The group of sculptures above the stone bal­cony of the entrance represents the founder of the order, St Joseph of Kalazant, accompanied by two children. A unique asset of the church is the tabernac­­le on the high altar made of Venetian glass, ■ .■ a gift granted by Bishop Pál Forgách in 1759. w~ The flat surfaces of the tabernacle set in gilded wooden frame are made of cut glass. The pictures on the back side ofthe mirror look convex.They B present scenes from the Bible, like the Last Supper on the door. The side altar next I to the chancel on the left is another curiosity: it is dedicated to St Dis- rajra wB mas, the Penitent Thief, ßgp-friaa*:. crucified on the right B “ hand side of Jesus. B In 1727 the monastery was already in B use, later it was enlarged several times. To- B day it is a secondary grammar school and B also a home for the novices ofthe or­­der.
