214 SIGHTSEEING ornate gate has been preserved near the church. In 1764, in the course of the preparations for the visit of Queen Maria Theresa, a new front door opening was made. In Joseph M's time the Piarists were moved to the premises of the Dominicans, who had been removed from the town. Soldiers were billeted in the monastery, while the furniture of the church is said to have been auctioned off. Eventually the Piarist fathers were allowed to return in 1796. The building was enlarged with the financial help of Bishop Konstantin Schuster in the late 19th century. Construction work was finished in the middle of the 20th century. The square was enclosed with the wing stretching as far as the cathedral in 1941. The school had a great many students who became famous, as well as several reputed teachers. The best-known former students were the dramatist Imre Madách, the painter Károly Lotz and the The Holy Trinity statue I heraldist Iván Nagy. The list of teachers includes the poet Sándor Sík and the physicist József Öveges. The town is abundant in religious objects d'art. Many of the statues were made of fragile sandstone quarried nearby, so they ablated easily. Consequently, these statues are difficult to recognize.
