204 SIGHTSEEING Ider on one de-altars The arched stone balustrade of the chancel was thought to have been made of wood for a long time because it was covered by a brown coating. The chancel has a wrought-iron door. There are eight sidealtars, some of which have been transformed, pulled down or removed in the course of time. Next to the chancel the first two depict Christmas and Easter as the two pillars of life. The portrayal of the infant of Betlethe mater dolorosa represent the mysterth and death. The superstructures of the le some relics set into filigree work as well as the documents attesting to their origins. Next to the entrance on the left, the altar of St Elizabeth (Erzsébet) is a special one. It was made by pious laymen, the members of the Franciscan Tertiaries.The makers carved the lying figure of St Francis (Ferenc) into the upper part with branches growing out of his side and the pictures of Franciscan saints on The pulpit with the statues of the virtues (1767) «<xxkxxxxxxx>oo«<xx>«<>o<xx>oo<xx>«ooooo the leaves. It is a kind of spiritual family tree, a Franciscan genealogy. Some of the equipment of the churches owned by the religious orders was often made by the friars who lived there. In this case we know for certain that the pulpit was made by brother Vitus, one of the friars at the monastery. The allegorical figures on the pulpit represent the cardinal virtues: moderation, wisdom, righteousness and fortitude. (During the last reconstruction work, the pieces of the pulpit were restored, but some of the accessories might have been put in the hands of the wrong figure.) The pipes have been restored several times in the Baroque swell box. The acoustics of the church are good, so organ concerts are held regularly and recordings are also made here. There are lots of replicas of devotional sculptures and pictures, which indicates that the Carolus Crouy-Chanel's tombstone in the crypt popular holy places of the age were well-known and venerated.
