Below the chancel Carolus Crouy-Chanel is buried, who was a claimant to the Hungarian throne in the 19th century: he claimed to have descended from Hun­gary's first royal family on his mother's side. Out of the early liturgical accessories of the church, an ornate lectern has survived as well as some painted open confessionals. The catafalque is richly decorated with the symbols of death. It was used at memorial services: an empty coffin symbol­izing that of the deceased was placed on it for the duration of the service. These objects can also be seen on the corridor. ■Mürtg! The -ranciscan Tp ■ ’.-s: o' 1 Painted coffin-stand (tumba) representing the symbols of life, death and mortality: on the lid there are soap bubbles, withering petals, a ruinous build­ing, and the accessories of a (wasted) life belonging to the man with a living and dead face respectively: cards, money and a sandglass. On the sides of the tumba the papal tiara, the royal crown, the bishop's mitre, the canon and the nobleman's hat, all of them with a skull underneath, remind us the fact that Death makes no distinctions, it will find all of us.
