T IPAROSOK OTTHONÁT The inhabitants of the Lower Town used to he tradesmen and peasants. Later the outskirts were populated by Gipsy settlers. There was a mill on the stream, vegetables and fruits were grown at the end of the streets. One of the streets was mainly inhabited by potters, which suggests that good raw material must have been found nearby. Today just a few street names remind us of past centuries, historic events, extinct buildings and their inhabitants. A part of the Lower Town bears the name of Burgundia. It implies that some early settlers may have come from there; some sources suggest it may refer to the outer defence line of the castle, or even to a former market place, because the word “burgundia” could also mean a stall or a market hall in Hungarian. Other place names like Krakó, Luxemburg have also survived, but we have no clues as to their origin.
