Ferencz József: Párhuzam hazánk és egyházunk története között (Kolozsvár, 1896)

8 the Unitarian faith so that there were founded numerous Congregations amongst the most remarkable, of which was that of the town Pécs. The memory of the Pécs Unitarian congregations has been preserved not only by its school from the i6-th’ century, but by its minister Geoi'ge Válaszúti also, the second Francis Dávid, who left a glorious name in the Hungarian literature, for the controversy which he continued with Skaritza is one of the most interesting memories of the i6-,h- century concerning religious historical facts. In truth, just as we are glad at celebrating our National Millennial Jubilee: so we, as Unitarians, can look back upon the glorious period of the foundation of our Church with just asmuch enthusiasm and joy. And without placing our religion above others, even while readily acknowledging that we have neither the importance nor the power, wealth and authority which the other religious sects possess and thus we cannot rival them neither in influence nor in results, still we rejoice in our National Unitarian Conference just as we do at our National Millennial Jubilee and we bless the divine Providence, that it was our Father’s good pleasure to give us place in his kingdom. While we are attached to our native land we still cling with a faithful heart to our Church, where we are free to lift our prayers towards heaven and in the true sense of the word we can repeat the words of the great Apostle: " We know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no God hut one.“ I. Cor. VIII. 8. 4.
